Anybody Use or Try These? Kleen Wheels Front Brake Dust Shields
carjunky - Auto Parts and Accessories Catalog - 2004 Chrysler Crossfire Brake Dust Shields Performance/Accessory
Saw these on line. I was wondering if anyone has used these. I know most will say just replace the pads -- and once mine need replacing I intend to go with pads that reduce the dust factor, but in the interim, I was looking for something that might be a cheap way to reduce the dust -- beyond cleaning them every couple days.
Also, thoughts on impact to cooling factor on rotors, brakes and any other issues?
Thanks.

I have never used them, but I would think that dust is dust. It may not get as much on the wheels, but the dust is going somewhere, and my guess would be it is being caked on the inner wheel. You can get the front Akebonos for about $80, and then get the backs later for only $40. The backs don't produce that much dust anyway.
I would just replace the pads with a low dust ceramic, rather than adding some device of questionable value to your wheel/brake arrangement.
In my opinion it's not an area where you want do something that may impede the intended design, by possiblely reducing airflow/cooling/conduction of heat, or adding something to an area as important as stopping the car.
The best way to reduce dust is with the right pad, it's a relatively cheap fix, and the approach I would take...

Don't use them.
Shark067 had them on his Coupe and warped his discs. Heat disapation is severly hampered by these dust covers.
Don't.
Di I mention you should not use them?

Appreciate the feedback. On to ceramic pads..........

I'll just do the ceramic pads.
We put Disc Italia ceramic pads on the front of my wife's C240 Mercedes. Most of the C240's on the road have brake dust encrusted front wheels. We can go 3-4 weeks without a wash and very little dust on the front wheels, no squeaks either. I ordered mine from Brake World. I agree on the covers, not a good idea. When are we gonna see you at Burtonsville? Let me know.
Hey Pat.
Good to hear you are still visiting these hallowed halls on the forum! I'll check out the Pads you suggested. I'm getting sick of the dust and having to clean the wheels every other day, so I may have to cave soon. Dirty wheels are not something I can stand for more than a day.
As far as Burtonsville, maybe this weekend. I've got to come check out your Cobra! Are you planning on being there? Is it still 8:30 to 9 when people show up? Hope to see you Sunday.

I've used them for over 10 years on various vehicles without a problem. DO NOT buy just dust covers they are NOT vented and will warp rotors. The Kleen wheel covers are vented in such a way that the turning of the wheel as you go down the road actually forces more air to the rotors.and are right and left sided for correct airflow to the rotors and they do keep the wheels mostly clean
