Help! 17" Rims with Blizzaks; yes or no?
Help! 17" Rims with Blizzaks; yes or no?
My SUV died! I live in Omaha, Nebraska and it is going to snow again; it's just a matter of time. I hate to use my Crossfire this winter, but I have no choice. I read every thread on this site I could find, and scoured the internet for information. I can buy four Blizzaks with 17" Rims, 225/45/R17 91H (Mercedes); and she includes a locking bolt set. They are run flats with a 5-112 bolt pattern for a Mercedes (they were on her 2006 CLK 350). I checked them out today and the tires are worth what she's asking. Now, will 17's damage my vehicle in any way? Do I need special bolts? Will it interfere with my ABS so much that it's not worth it? Is "clearance" an issue with smaller rims? Streets are plowed 90% of the time, but my car couldn't go the length of 6 houses right after it was plowed a few weeks ago so I have to do something, and soon. I welcome your opinions and advice! Thanks!

38 offset should be okay... I run 35 in front and back.... but you still need to check the bolts in the back to make sure they dont rub the e-brake... a quick check it to pull your rear wheel, stick one of your bolts through a mounting hole and measure the amount sticking out the other side... then stick your bolt through a mounting hole on the new wheel and measure how much is sticking through... it CAN NOT be longer than what your factory wheel measurement was..... getting new bolts for the new wheels is easy too...

You can use this calculator for playing with tire sizes to find the 17 inch snow tire size that closely corresponds to the stock tire for circumference and revolutions per mile.(fronts and rears).
I always use this before buying snows in drop down sizes for my cars :

Thanks so much for all the help! With the above information I now feel confident they'll work without damaging the car, so I'm going to buy them. I wish I could bake you all some cookies or something to thank you! If you're ever in Nebraska, I'll cook you something good to show my gratitude! Thanks.
