Default crossfire rear tires

I want my rear tires as wide as possible, do you know wich size is the wider that can fit in the crossfire?
My car have the stock suspension and rims, i have the 285/40R19 but i would like to have something wider, it looks more agressive
Maybe i will need to install one by one and test it if it doesnt have contact with any part

I hope someone know something about my question

275 is the widest reccomended on stock rears.
Going wider the sidewalls will roll more in cornering and bubble the center tread out some.
Can't remember who has them but someone here has 305 on aftermarket rears.

Thanks!!! I dont know to much about tires, do you think that wider tires could be bad for highway? Or can they make me loose control when driving?

You know, this is the FORUM troubleshooting area - we have a "Tires and Suspension" forum here and if you go in there and look, you will find PICTURES of cars with 285/35/19s in the rear - looks awesome, handles well, no rubbing - I've run them in the back for several years now.

In the curves on the Dragon, even that little bit more of rubber seems to stabilize and grip marginally better - but certainly not WORSE.

Your stock tire 255/35-19 are 10" wide and 26" tall
your 285/40-19 are 11.2" wide and 28" tall--- yes they rub right.
the 285/35-19 are 11.2 " wide and 26.9 tall will work great.
the 305/30-19 are 12" wide and 26.2 " tall
the 305/35-19 are 12" wide and 27.4" tall ---may rub
now pick a tire! jim

I hate to use old threads but I dont seem to get a clear answer on this. Would a 285/40/19 tire, fit on a 19 inch STOCK rim? would it rub? what is the biggest you can go without issues? Thanks guys.

Joel

read the post above for the tires that fit with the stock rims.
yes the 285-40 will rub, every small bump you hit it will make the tire rub even the reflector in the street. because it is 28" tall the stock tire is 26" USAF 64 to 68 jim

Oh. I got what you meant above. 285-35-19 will be the ideal fit. I'm glad there's people like you and on this forum who always help. Thank you for your reply and you have a wonderful day.

Hello, thanks for your reply. You have 285-40-19 in the back without problems? What are your driving habits? Doesn't rub in bumps, specially in high speed? I'd love too see a pic of those things if you can. Thanks for your input!

Cheers!

Joel

The Info on this site has been invaluable to so many. I wanted to pass on a problem I had with tires.
I found a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Runflats 285 / 35/ 19. Though the size in the posts above show this size tire should work, the tires would not seal. I had two shops try and both couldn't do it. Apparently the Runflats, at least in this size, will not work.
Just wanted to pass this on.

So they would seat but not seal?
On factory 9" wheels?
With the stiffer sidewalls not seat properly on narrower rim?
Is that tire say a 9.5" or 10" minimum?

The tires fit on the rims but would not "seat" so they could pump air into them. They felt it was the stiffness that was keeping it from sealing around the rim.
The tire dimensions were as stated on previous post " 285/35-19 are 11.2 " wide and 26.9 tall will work great".
Just wanted to let people know that the RunFlat in this size would not work (unless someone was able to put them on a stock rim, maybe under a different manufacturer).

Probably could not apply enough pressure. Were the seats well soaked ? Liquid detergent works well. Needles removed. Old time trick that should work with a 19" was to inflate a well lubed bicycle tube between the rim and the tire. Tire would then inflate and pop the tube out.

And then there was the real old time trick that involved a little "flammable liquid" but is not recommended.

ps in the bad old daze we used a lot of tricks to inflate say a 10.45x15 on a 12" rim at the track where a big compressor was not available. Of course those sidewalls were so thin you could almost see through them. Still have my irons. BTW ever use a jack to separate the bead from a rim ? (tow car is best)

They did the soaking with detergent. The problem was the Ridge of the tire would not close enough on the rim to allow the seal so they could pump air into it. They mounted, unmounted, used lots of tools to try and get the lip of the tire to seat into the rim so they could inflate. It just looks like the RF are too rigid at that size.

Haha, done that many times on the farm.
But never do on split rims.

Sorry if I missed it. Are you mounting on the stock rims? If so, they should fit. It isn't easy and it does require some patience. Mounted over 6 sets for my cars in the last 8 yrs. I only mounted 1 pair of run flats. They were Goodyear F1's. I would never run them again. The stiff side walls are NOT good for tractions. I can spin the crap out of them.

I had a set of them also, I hated them, all they did was spin for me also, expensive tires and didn't get many miles on them, I like stiff sidewalls on the front, soft on back.
I like the cornering better with stiffer sidewalls on front than back on my na. Feels like it helps pull the back end around, feels better and more comfortable and I think I can take middle and off corner faster.
