Default Chrome wheels

I was told the other day that the chrome wheels that I have could be causing my slow air leak in one tire. I wanted to make sure that the slow breakdown of the chrome could cause a leak and if there’s anything that I can do to prevent or reduce it. So far, it’s only in the tire behind the driver.

It would take a lot of crusty rust/broken chrome to cause an air leak. The " fix a flat" product is designed for just such a leak. You may want to try that, or remove the tire from the rim and then have it reinstalled. When the tire is off take a look at the bead area and see for yourself if there is a large amount of crust rust. Clean up the bead area if necessary with a rotating wire brush and reinstall the tire. I would try that first. I'm assuming their isn't an actual hole allowing air to escape from the tire and the tire isn't so old it has simple started to crack with age. You should replace the valve at the stem also.

The tire has maybe 1,000 miles on it and the place supposedly pulled the tire off to check it. I appreciate your suggestions, I’ll take it down to Discount Tire (where I bought the tire) and look into the options. Thanks!

You can also use an commercial bead sealer if the leak is in fact cumming from there . Lay down the wheel flat on the ground and spray a mist of dish soap and water around the rim . . . bubble of soap will appear where air leaks. Then You will know if and where it leaks.

So, I had the rims checked today and the valve stems replaced. They confirmed that the chrome was starting to go. I looked up some information and repairing chrome rims costs between $200 and $500 each. Based on this information, can anyone suggest a good place to shop for replacements? Or, does the re-chrome cost seem reasonable?

For that price you can buy quality custom rims.

Those look very nice! We have the red color, is there any way to look at the rims on a virtual car? It says that they don’t have a photo of one…

Sheesh, so many options. Here is the current car. I really like what you chose, but, I had the calipers painted the color of the car and would like to show them off some. Of course, I don’t plan to use chrome, hehe. Would Discount Tire be able to give me pricing?

Just pick the wheel ya want searching TSW for the Crossfire and find a set with both 18 and 19 inch wheel options
There are many other manufacturers of wheels but TSW has all hub centric wheels and that is an important factor when buying new wheels

While I agree with Valk's feedback above, you do have options. Even if you find a set of wheels you like that have a different (larger) hub bore, you can purchase a set of hub-centric rings that will press into a wheel's larger hub bore & convert the wheel to the 66.56 mm hub bore needed for the Crossfire. Tuners do this type of conversion all the time.

Did you have to use any spacers or were they a direct bolt on? What about the sensors , could they be swapped over. I just discovered a crack in one of my rear wheels that is leaking and trying to make a decision on trying to find another wheel or replacing all four. I know diddly about off sets and did not want to use any kind of spacer.
Btw, I like your wheels.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Fred
