Went out to start the car and take the wife to dinner . . . It started very rough and the check engine light came on. I opened the hood to find the start of a mouse nest and the wiring that connects to the engine coils on the right side of the engine was chewed through! Does anyone happen to have that connector harness?

Yeah . . . I know you're probably right. It's a long shot to find someone with that harness laying around.

Hi Rob (Needswings) . . . Thanks for your usual quick response. As we subsequently discussed, I'm not just looking for those coil connector fittings, I was hoping to find the engine wiring harness. Further research proves you were correct and that engine wiring harness is all one piece. Amazingly, there are two current listings on E-Bay . . .

realize that you must lift the supercharger assembly off the car in order to swap harnesses. easier to just do the repair in my opinion. if you are nervous about soldering, tow the car to a local audio installation shop as they should have plenty of experience redoing wires.

 

Hi Rob, No I didn't realize that! This would be an entirely new area of SRT6 engine exploration for me.

So now I have to decide whether or not to replace / rebuild my supercharger (remember the electro magnet was damaged when the 62mm Karmen supercharger pulley was slipping and ultimately grenaded). I could do that and replace the engine wiring harness at the same time. Then while I'm "in there" I could check out the condition of my intercooler.

So do I want to turn this into a long and expensive project or should I just have an expert rebuild that damaged section of my wiring harness (because you guessed it . . . splicing and soldering wires is not one of my areas of expertise and it would probably keep me up tossing and turning at night knowing things were "hacked" up in there)? Oh these decisions . . .

I wish you'd get tired of that crappy Michigan weather and move your operations down to south Florida. I could bring in some business for you . . .

 

Splice and solder. If you have a need to verify the intercooler all you have to do is pull one manifold and look for a stream of goo. Mine was leaking for unknown years and the car ran fine. A little water and antifreeze is harder on the mind than the engine. I got over some of the mental resistance to splicing with the Zietronix. Cutting wires in the ECU will get your freak on.

If you really, really need to know what has to be done to pull the supercharger I can reboot my brain and give you a list of what has to come off. You can get'er done in a couple of hours …. if you've done it a couple of times.

Hi Les, Thanks for your input. I bought the complete engine wiring harness for $150.00 delivered to my door. I'm going to put it on the self for now and I'm going to rebuild that damaged section of the wiring harness going to the three right side engine coils. Then if I ever get my new 62mm supercharger pulley from Khang Vo (latest is that I'll have it before Christmas), I'll install that along with the LateModel21 scatter shield and see if the new pulley slips. If it does slip I'll have to pull the supercharger to replace the electromagnet and I can install the "new" replacement wiring harness at that time. There has to be a certain sequence to these things and then one step at a time . . .
