Default $300 Oil Change... ?!

Just thought I'd share that a regular oil change on a 2007 Porsche Boxter S is around $300... and a service B is around $600. I just thought that was crazy, $300 for an oil change?!
Does that include a wash/polish/wax and a butt scratcher too?

But it does look good...

that is ridioclous what does it consist of? i would be surprised if it needed more quarts and it also uses the same oil.. so whats the price coming from? the filter? no way.. It is just a mark up even with the 20-60 super performance oil the price won't go that high...

Maybe it is so expensive since you have no access to the engine on a Boxster (except for oil and washer fluid) except from underneath.

Here's a nice counterpoint to the title in this thread. I brought my 06 base roadster in to the dealer (Petes Chrysler in Great Barrington, MA) yesterday. I only have 850 mi but I wanted to know what was in and when the oil was changed and it seems to make sense after the engine has a few miles on it. Anyway, they took it in as scheduled, completed the oil change on time and then told me that the first oil change is FREE and thanks for being a customer of Petes!!! I'm a happy camper...

filling up the crossfire with motul only cost $85 and a filter is about $10, what's going on here?

I think the dealers are trying to attract lease owners, and detract the guy that want's to buyout the car. This keeps alot of models on the road and maintnace is usually free for lease cars.

Holy Crap! Are you serious? Why? What are they going to do throw a new engine in there?!

RPM, I think you're right... at least that's the only feasible reason I could think of.

Next time it needs an oil change I'll ask my mom if I could look at it first... maybe the oil filter is hard to get too. I'm going to mosey over to a Porsche forum and check it out.

$300 = deal

Yeah, It's not bad but it's not great... I could do it for a little more than $100. Still haven't found someone who does their own though, that makes me nervous

Boxter oil capacity is 9 quarts. Oil and filter change normally run $125 or about.

it just sounds like a dealer overcharge.. the common customer of expensive vehicles cares little about a oil change prices as even $300 is not much to him... Imagine going to a coffee shop does it matter to you if the coffee is $1 or $2? either way you will pay cause you want that coffee and you want it now... the same applies here...

$54 for the oil.. prolly around $20-30 for the filter and over $200 for half hour of labor it makes perfect sense to me..

Also Porsche is not a high end exotic like a Ferrari where the engine has to be removed in order to change the tires...
