How to program your own key. SAVE $$$
Re: How to program your own key. SAVE $$$
There is more to it than just the key.
There is a transponder chip within the housing that tells the SKREEM module that you have inserted the correct key.
Without that chip, the engine will not start.
This is apart and separate from the remote lock/unlock and panic functions in the key fob.

New key from Mercedes/Texas would not program by inserting key, then pressing LOCK twice , then turning to ON. Tried five times. Reversed sequence to pressing LOCK twice , Then inserting key and turning to ON and it worked first time. Just an F Y I .

Where are people getting this "insert key" first? All I've read till lately states press twice.. within 30 seconds insert and turn to on position. Girl on Facebook claimed I posted insert key.. hold button for 30 seconds then turn on.. umm..don't think so. Needless to say she never produced a link to that statement. Ironically it worked for her though.. LOL
OH hell.. never mind.. pulled up post #1 .. LOL..

That exact same statement (from post #1) is sent with every new key purchased through Needswings!
I tried the same procedure as the manual stated and had no success. Pulled the key out and did the button push before inserting and worked like a charm. One thing I'm wondering about is how long these replacement keys have been laying around. Mine would only work close to the car and if it was pointed only one way and not the other. 3 weeks later and she died completely. Fresh batteries and she's working normally like she should have, from 5 times the distance and pointed either way. If these keys were produced during the cars mfg. and still hold the original batteries, the batteries would be reaching their 7 yr limit just sitting on the shelf!

Mine probably would of too. I think the low battery had something to do with mine not syncing out of the box.

To synchronize the key fob transmitter
This may be required after replacing the batteries or when receiving a replacement fob.
Directions as stated in the Owner Manual.
1, Aim the transmitters red eye at the vehicle.
2, Briefly press the lock or unlock button twice.
3, Within 30 seconds, insert the key in the ignition.
4, Turn the key to the ON/Run position.
The remote control function should again be operational.
Available as a PDF.

The red light is just that - a red LED that only serves to indicate that a button has been pushed and the battery is OK.
There is NO InfraRed (IR ) interface to the car, it is all Radio Frequency ( RF ).
The key should still work to start the car, as this is done by an RFID chip in the fob ( not on the circuit board ) that should not be water sensitive.
That part about "aim the transmitters red eye at the vehicle" is pure BS.

If so maybe you lost the little chip in front of the PC board. If you did the car will not start.
See the tenth post in this thread (click) to see the chip I am speaking about.
