Default transmission recommendation

hi guys, I should be buying an crossfire next week and I still cant decide if i want to go for manual or auto. Never had an automatic so this question will maybe sound stupid but can you an automatic change gears moving your shifter up down or left right ??? or is it purely automatic and the computer changes the gears for you without your input ???

Auto trans has Autostick feature, so you can shift it yourself or let the gearbox do the work.
Manual tranny is not known as a smooth shifter, but it's my preference. I've had two roadsters with sticks.

It's really your personal preference, so drive both before purchasing.

The autostick is sort of a 'semi' autostick, IE :
You manually put it in '1' at a dead stop, floor the pedal, the computer will shift it up through
2,3,4,5 at a certain RPM ( around 5500 ) IF you don't knock the lever to the right before you reach this limit.

If you are in 'D' and do a downshift, the computer will decided which downshift gear is needed by comparing the RPM and speed.

Another note : the autostick also has a "S/W" switch. The "W" setting causes the transmission to be in second gear at start.
This is for improved traction in "W"inter conditions. So in "W", you effectively have a 4 speed automatic.

My auto stick shifts a 6000 RPM at full throttle. Just sayin.

I have had both transmissions. The six speed is fun to drive and I do miss it. However, the auto on these cars is simply the best automatic out there IMHO.

Can't argue, my eyes were on the road, I was probably off a bit on the tach reading ....
I probably should have said " somewhere north of 5500"
