Default Windshield Wiper - Body Control Module

2005 Red Roadster - 40k miles

I brought my car to a local service station as the wiper was not working. They replaced the wiper motor for 425.00 and when the wiper still did not work they stated that the vehicle may need a new body control module.

Everything else in the car works perfectly. Anyone experience this or have suggestions?

On the bright side the dealer is replacing my entire convertible roof under warranty because of the glass coming undone

Sounds like "bad service". It appears to me they "replaced" what really wasnt broken. There arent any "real" mechanics anymore. They're called "technicians" now. These technicians do not analyse, diagnose and repair. They just "guess"stimate and replace. This is why I come here FIRST before I go to a shop. The veteran forum members here are true mechanical "enthusiast" at heart. What ever issues you are experiencing with your Crossie, there is someone here who solved the problem (and may have posted pics of the process)

Does the washer spray ?
If so, then Fuse 32 is OK and the multifunction switch seems to be working OK.
That just leaves wiring and the BCM........

The Body Control Module (BCM) supplies vehicle occupants with visual and audible information and controls various vehicle functions, To provide and receive information, the module is interfaced to the vehicle's serial bus communications network, the Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) bus. This network consists of the powertrain control module (PCM), the Transmission Control Module (TCM) , the electro/mechanical instrument cluster (MIC) , the Airbag Control Module (ACM) , the Compass/mini-trip module and the Controller Antilock brake Module (CAB). The BCM is operational when battery power is supplied to the module. Ignition switch power is needed for ignition switch functions.

The BCM provides the following features:
• Automatic door locks
• Battery protection
• Chimes
• Compass/mini-trip support
• Courtesy lamps
• BCM diagnostic support
• Door lock inhibit
• Headlamp time delay
• Ignition key lamp
• Illuminated entry
• Instrument panel dimming
• Mechanical instrument cluster support
• Power door locks (with/without remote keyless entry)
• Sliding door memory lock
• Vehicle Theft Security system (VTSS)
• Windshield wipers / washers (front and rear)

To my way of thinking if one or maybe two systems connected to the BCM have a problem, then the cause is probably within that system. But when they all have a problem, then I have to think the BCM is bad.

Thanks for your replies...

The fuses are fine and all the other functions that are associated with the body control module are working fine. when I did change the fuse the wipers popped into the down position which was only a movement of inches.

The car has sat for 2 years although I would run it up an down our road each year, because of having a baby I just did not drive it much.

I guess I should let the dealer figure it out, but at least the body module might not be the problem if everything else is working. The mechanic stated he tested the circuit between the wiper switch and body control module and was only getting 12 volts and diagnostic chart states the body control module is defective. Obviously the body control module is not shorted out if all the other functions are working fine

Thanks for the speedy responses - much appreciated as I am not that familiar with mechanics

It is cool that I am getting a completely new roof though

I'd say that a simple test for voltage at the wiper motor connector would say if the wiper motor was at fault or not, but I do not make my living putting unneeded parts on cars for a living.
I'd say you were screwed.
