L.E.D. headlight bulb conversion anyone done it?
Hey Dave!
Whiteness is not brightness indeed. They are so white with a narrower spectrum that darker things on the road don't show up as well. The same goes with my choice of trouble light. An incandescent bulb shows contrasting parts under the hood better than an LED trouble light. I do plan on keeping the OE H7 highbeam bulbs to keep a broader light spectrum.
This said, I would say that some people won't like them while others will. It's too early to give my final verdict as I haven't done much night driving with them as of yet

They can burn your eyes up close but at a distance they are just little dots of light, all that efficiency means naught.
Some will think they are cool though.
Turns out I had to adjust the headlights down some to improve the light propagation. I'm getting used to them and am pleased with the LED's so far. Time will tell how truly reliable they really are.
LED headlight technology is fairly recent. The kit I used in the Crossfire does not cause glare or blinding for the oncoming traffic. The white light emitted from the projectors is a nice update, matching what you see on today's BMW's and Mercedes cars.
I would not recommend this mod to the old school type person but surely a somewhat younger generation stands to benifit

Some output shots on a dark unlit street would be awesome if possible. I'm really trying to see if these are more worthwhile than my morimoto HIDs.
Alrighty ,so i felt i had to chime in here. heres the low down on LED head lights. THEY WORK WONDERFULLY. just not in our cars. i tried the first generation single sided LEDS and they did a nice job but didnt reflect inside the housing enough to provide adequate lighting, due to the projector design, i scrapped them and put in HIDS , those work quite well so far. next i took those LEDS and put them in the fogs, significant improvement over stock halogens , i highly recommend them , less heat , less power draw. love them, the LEDS pictured here are some of the more high end LED designs out there , they are considered second gen , reliability on them is so so due to lack of development , at 180 probably not worth your time. next these wont fit inside your head lamp. trust me ive tried. if you could get them to fit they probably would work better than HIDS , no warm up period , less energy draw, and more intense light from a single two points. next challenge would be aiming them correctly. i am working on a different model of LED head lights that may work for our cars, they have a smaller head, use different LED cree chips , its a work in progress. but my car is almost completely LED at this point and i love them.

adrian i can sure as heck try tomorrow night and get you some , how do i upload them here? do i have to use imigur or something? i can also try youtube in a video format
I'm a big fan of LED lights on cars.
However, I found it uncomfortable fitting LEDs as low/high beam headlights, especially like the ones Crossfire has, which already has a projector in front of it.
I'm good with the rest of the car.
Try HIDs, they're much more friendly.

so far i have only found one set of LEDS that should fit our projector housings, i will try them soon. hids are nice but they leave a litle to be desired, but much better than stock halogen.
The Projector lens for the Crossfire was meant for Halogens, so they have hot spots.
The reason I do not like LEDs for high/low beams are due to their incapabilities of producing a true 360 degree lighting.

i like your post , and its true the OEM projectors like the halogens, the HIDS do work , but not as well as hoped, and the leds i carry in my store do provide damn near 360 thanks to dual chips , i am working on getting some that will fit our projectors , the glare issue ive never had with any lights ive put in my projectors so that was interesting that you got that.

For me, and I do believe for most of the people, the amount of the light from HID bulbs are sufficient. (That's probably why no one replied the thread)
The only complain for me, like I said, is the amount of usable light for the projector output. (that sums up with the angle, amount of light, and the mount of light redirected from side of the projector to projector)
Also, I would love to get my hands on LED as much as possible as well, did the LED conversion for most of the bulbs almost within 2 weeks after I got my SLK.
agreed, thats the nice part about led , they act as if they are capped , so there shouldn't be any glare, as soon as i have the extra cash i will test out a new bulb ,i will call my supplier and order it. in the mean time the fogs are led ans super bright there is a noticable difference in road visibility and signs lighting up

I personally prefer fogs to aim straight, but kept low. But unfortunately, the factory reflector housing doesn't do what I wanted, so I just went with the 3000K halogen.
Not a believer of using super bright fog as driving lights unless there're visibilities issues.
the fogs i sue for visibility, and the leds i put in there are downward facing so theres a nice sharp cut off , youd like these. they aim down , but still reflect off white reflective materials
here is the youtube video i made of my car tonight , not as white in the video as in real life, or as bright , but a general idea of what these lights can do
Got a name (make) and p/n for the fogs? Can we order them from you?
