Keyfob & the worthless dealership
Just replaced a broken housing on perfectly functioning 04 keyfob. Now the key is still able to unlock the the doors but unable to start the car.
The paperwork with the housing mentions a re-sync process involving the rear view mirror if the batteries are left out for to long. I've tried that process and another I read here in the forums, however the symptom remains.
The Chrysler dealer seems clueless about a fix, but assures me spending big money with them will result in a solution. They also made sure to put down the Crossfire because of it relation to Mercedes. The Mercedes dealer just wanted to passed to buck back to Chrysler.
I have faith the forum members here are smarter than the dealership.

Unable to start car.. as in it almost starts..but dies.. if so.. you have lost the rfid chip .. or it's not quite sitting where it should be!
When I did mine the chip slipped back about 1/4 of an inch.. and believe it or not that was enough for it not to start!

Hope you know "exactly" where you were sitting standing or otherwise if that chip is not in the fob.. carpet search time..
With about $150 prize for finding it.. LOL.

I don't see any components on the circuit board that looked tweaked. Its sounding like the RFID chip in detachable except I'm not seeing where it would have ever been. Here is what I am seeing

My 04 model chip was sitting "loose" in the Fob there is a little pocket in the housing right at the end by the key.. there is a write up on replacement housings that show the chip. I'll be yours fell out much as mine did, but anticipating the chip I didn't loose mine. Later models they glued the chip into the casing.
The RFID chip is a small black rectangle. If I'm remember correctly it is not attached to the board but inside the gray plastic cousins at the end with the key.
The piece you are looking for is that little black chip from the photos here. The link also shows you which way the piece fits in there and as you already guessed the piece is crucial to get the car started!

Thank you everyone for the quality information. I did open the old one back up and found the RFID chip still glued in. The car now starts after the transplant. I had watched a youtube video and it never mentioned the chip. The guide posted here is excellent.
Glad we got you on track! This is the place to be when you have any issues to deal with.. even if you do a google search.. pick the link to the forum..
