Default Engine Temp Gauge Needle Position

This may have been a thread earlier but my engine temperature gauge commonly reads above the 1/2 line. It is like this 90% of the time...however it isn't a dramatic amount above either. I drove a friends crossfire today and realized the needle sat below the line no matter how hard I stepped on it or cranked the A/C. Where do your gauges sit at? Also is my issue normal or should I change my mixture of antifreeze and coolant? Could it be my coolant temp sensor? Also the stem on my coolant overflow reservoir was falling off so I glued it (could there be possible blockage there)?

Any help or comments would be great!! Thanks

I have two Crossfires and that looks normal to me.

Yep, there will always be slight deviations one car to the next.
Get an UltraGauge if you want exact degrees.

Above the halfway mark as you have indicated is pretty normal for all of us
This has been discussed here for years

My Graphite NEVER went even to the 1/2 mark, because I had the fan speed remapped for $50.

You can lower, by 10C/18F, the temperature versus fan speed graph with a "Star Diagnostic System" (which costs around $4000). I got a shop in ATL to do it for me. With my current car, I'm stuck as they no longer have the computer to do it!

THe idea here is that your thermostat opens around 190F. But the fan does not reach full speed until around 218F. This was done to save a little on gas mileage by letting the engine get a bit warmer before the fan speeds up (the fan consumes some 1HP or so at full speed). THIS is how the automotive industry struggles to keep their average fleet mileage a tiny bit higher to march in lock-step with the asshats who run the country and world.

It is normal, but I insist is it poor practice. Go get an ultra-gauge and watch the temperature and you will see that I know what I'm talking about.

Did you have a chance to get an Ultragauge?
I have one and my engine doesnt warm up any more than lower 180s in these days(kind of chilly in Tx, around 50s lol). Except on redlights, upto around 188. Needle is slightly lower than the mid mark. Is this normal? Most of the people on the topics I found are talking about the needle position but not the actual temp.

Yes, this is normal, cold weather I get about 181-185 on the UG and the needle one needle width below half.

I have never spotted the needle above the mid point, always a tad below on both cars I have had.

Both my cars will run about where you all are saying but in the summer at 110 degrees and a/c on they run about a needle above center. Don't know the actual temp but that seems a reasonable rise for conditions.

Both Crossies run a hair under halfway during normal driving. In summer bumper to bumper or spirited driving of the SRT6 (how can you resist), it can rise about a needle's width over halfway. Been this way for 10 years and even after coolant flush and refills.

Up until recently I had two SRT-6's with similar mileage (12k and 22k). Both ran (San Joaquin Valley) slightly above and slightly below halfway. Above in city traffic and below on the freeways.

My 2007 XFire temp gauge reads right around midpoint. Drifts above a bit under heavy load. Then drifts below a bit when everything settles down. Factory gauges typically have a slow response time and the measurement always differs from one car to the next.

coolant light used to come on if I park it on a steep hill, then it started to come on when I am over ~65mph also. I used the car like this for few months. yesterday I decided to add some coolant and it took about 4/5 of a gallon!!! now the temp needle is more stable, temp stays at 188. it used to move in between 180-190.
