The switch came in at lunch and I installed it. So far so good with a long spin around the block. Time will tell...
I took the original apart and found that one contact point was looking bad. This contact is closed when your foot is off the brake. When I get time, I am going to look over the wiring diagram.
funny how things work, 12 years and 125000 mile daily driver and mine still the original, I guess that speaks pretty good for original equipment.

If you have to replace it every year or two then you have an underlying problem that you are not fixing. I wish I had the answer for you guys but I don't. This is something that I haven't had to deal with yet.
The last one I put lasted almost two years. There is no underlying problem I am not fixing. Some people in the Mercedes forums have to change the brake light switch every year too. Every Mercedes dealership carries it in stock because it is such a common issue.
Brake switch ordered! Will report back on the subject once installed.
Not sure what kind of code reader will work with that system.
James
The iCarsoft MB II worked for me a few months ago and it said the stop lamp was inoperable. The weird thing was the code was read from the transmission module if I am not mistaken.

With that in mind, maybe the aftermarket parts are better than OEM?
🤔 I was thinking the exact same thing when I read it.
When I replied it was like 5am my time. To clarify my first one lasted 7 years and went out right after my extended warranty expired. Since then I had to replace it about every year with the last one lasting about two years.

One time I replaced it with a Chrysler one and it didn't come from Mercedes and it lasted the least amount of time. I think it is just one of those gremlins on certain cars and other cars never have this issue.

😉 I think mine was built on a Wednesday haha! Assembly line was over their hangover and looking forward to their next one.
Ok, I changed the four ABS sensors wires, bled the brakes, got a new brake light switch, still have the light on. The shop said it does have a yaw code, so is there a way to to test that without pulling it out of the car?
OK, I just did that and the light stays on, so how had is to get to the yaw sensor?
Google for Wheeler Dealers SLK 320 and you'll see the episode where they replaced the Yaw Sensor on their SLK. Process is nearly identical for Crossfire.
Hey everyone ....so lm having the dreaded BAS light stay on .....so background .....stored car for the winter ....no issues no lights before storage ..so l did let the battery run down low before l noticed it , charged up and put battery tender on ...just took car out BAS LIGHT stayed on and brake pedal spongy...tryed reset with steering wheel left and right ....light still on.... shut engine off restart light off but after 2-3 brake applications comes back on ...tires pressures checked -ok ....brake lights ok.... Brake fluid level ok ..... nothing happened to cause this other than battery was almost flat.... ld almost be leaning towards replacing the master maybe trying to bleed brakes before hand ....what do you think ??
Bleeding the brakes will work, until you store the car again next year. I have a new master cylinder on the work bench waiting to get some time to install. As for the BAS light, a new brake light switch solved my problem.
James lm unclear what your saying? Bleeding brakes works temporary, master is perminant fix ...that covers the spongy pedal l get that ....brake light switch repaired the BAS LIGHT .....so your saying that they are TWO different problems. ...l thought fixing the spongy pedal would solve both problems
Ok thanks .. interesting l thought lm only dealing with only one problem.....but l guess it could be two issues then l will keep that in mind .... my brake lights work .......is that not the test for a good switch ?
