Default oil extractor

For those of you that have used the Mityvac or plus, do you feel it does an adequate job of removing all the oil? Never used any extractor before but since the filter is topside it looks like a pretty good option over the conventional method, if it works. Also, about how long does it take to remove 8quarts +.

I have used a MityVac for the last 3 changes, it seems to get all the oil out as I can put 8 quarts back in.
It does not take too long if you start with WARM, not HOT oil.
If you have an air compressor, get the 7300 model.

Make sure you pay attention to Ala_Xfire: It does not take too long if you start with WARM, not HOT oil.
The first time I used one the oil was too hot and collapsed the reservoir.

Thank you gentlemen. Found the Plus on Amazon for $99.95 with no tax & free shipping. Applied for an Amazon Visa card, got approved, $50 off the final price of the pump. So for 49.95 think I'll give it a try.

.

I use the topsider, it is GREAT. It gets almost all the oil. I did a test ( https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...extractor.html , post 16 comment ), when removing the WARM oil I added a small step of 'tilting' the car towards the oil dipstick using the jack on the drivers side (left hand steering). After removing the oil I removed the oil pan bolt and got so little oil from the pan it was amazing. Use the method you want to but the topsider works great for taking almost all the oil out. One little hint, don't fill it to the top of the oil fil on the dipstick. I leave a little off the 'MAX' marking. Works for me!

I have a MityVac 7300 and I’m sold on it. Quick, easy, clean.

I have a MityVac 7201 and am pleased with it.

My driveway has a slight slope down to the street, so when using the extractor I position the front passenger side, the side with the dipstick, to be the lowest point of the car on the driveway.

My only problems have been with pumping the oil out of the extractor into milk jugs:
  • Don't put warm oil into milk jugs! AMHIK.
  • Remove the thinner extractor tube before pumping out the used oil into the vessels of your choice.

Oh, forgot about the time to extract--it's not quick--It typically takes me an hour end-to-end to do a full oil change that includes a new filter and 8 quarts of oil. (More time is needed if I spill any oil.)

Using the pump to extract 8 quarts of oil is much, much slower than draining oil via the pan's drain hole.I never timed it, but my memory says full extraction takes 20-30 minutes and requires periodic handle pushing to maintain extraction flow.

You mention the Mityvac MV7300 Pneumatic air operated fluid evacuator ....... I know this model needs a compressor operate. Can I use the tire inflator that comes with the Crossfire as a pneumatic device??

If not, what is the preferred air compressor for our members????

My evacuator is hand pumped, it holds at least 10 litres. I empty it into the just used oil containers via a large funnel.
It is the cheapest option, just make sure it has enough capacity to drain the engine plus some, mine is 10 litres I believe.

I already had a good 120 volt compressor, if you don't, then get the hand pump version.
I don't think any 12 volt compressor will move enough air for the vacuum device to work.
