this section Is on badges

SRT-6 LOGOS, BADGES AND EMBLEMS

DIFFERENT STYLES

The SRT-6 badge is one of the things that differentiates the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 from the other models. The badge have two different styles, a 2005 and 2006 version, so there are ways of how to see when the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 on the street was manufactured. VIN in windshield says it all, see VIN decoder for more information, but take a look at headrest of seat and/or the dashboard. The exterior badges can be purchased and are easily swappable and/or added to a NA.

POSITION

The SRT-6 logo is positioned differently on the 2005 and 2006 models.

As seen on photos to the right, all 2005 SRT-6 have the 2005 style logo on the following places:

  • Trunk, below crossfire emblem
  • Headrest of seat
  • Dashboard above RPM tachometer

As SRT re-branded their logo the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 2006 model got the updated version. As seen on photos to the right, they are positioned on the following places:

  • Headrest of seat
  • Dashboard above RPM tachometer
  • Side fenders

IN NEED OF A NEW BADGE?

If you are in need of a new badge and/or simply just want to upgrade the sun faded ones you have, here are the part#:

  • 2005 trunk badge: #05140794AA
  • 2006 side fender badge: #68001757AA

BEWARE: KNOCK-OFF DECALS

As the SRT-6 badges are highly expensive, about 100 USD, many copies and knock-offs are availble on the internet. Be careful but it is often that the number "6" is way off the original. See picture to the right.

AFTERMARKET: ENGINE PLAQUE

If you look in the engine bay and lift the cover protecting the supercharger you will be able to see a blank spot where it looks like a badge once was fitted. This is how your SRT-6 came out from the factory in Osnabrück, but what goes for the Mercedes Benz AMG vehicles, is another matter. AMG places a special so-called engine plaque on there with a signature stating the name of the person that put that particular engine together. As for SRT-6 engine plaques you have to look for some custom made ones. SparkieSRT6 on CrossfireForum made some really nice ones show in the picture in column to the right. If you are interested in buying an engine plaque, just send a PM to SparkieSRT6 [[url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220427221251/http://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=26245]HERE].

AFTERMARKET: ANDREW'S SRT-6 EMBLEMS

These emblems are available in three different styles.

- Style 1: 2005

- Style 2: 2006

- Style 3: AMG

Custom emblems are also available and could be done in various designs and sizes. The emblems are made by a member over at Crossfireforum.org with the alias Andrew and are available as a kit that consists of :

- 1 front decal

- 1 rear decal

- 1 steering wheel decal

- 4 round decals for the wheel center caps

- 1 key fob decals

- 1 engine cover decal

Worth mentioning is that with this kit there is no need to alter the factory emblem. The decals adhere on top of the factory Chrysler dome emblem. The original emblem will remain like new beneath the decal so you can remove the decal for trade in/sale/lease return or if it's not to one's liking down the road. Price vary depending where you live but standard price is $41 shipping is included in USA and $7.50 will be added for all overseas shipments. The package will be sent out in a very protected package along with simple yet detailed installation instructions. Check out www.crossfiremarket.com for more information.

Section on Color. FYI post 2 contains pdf paintguide

SRT-6 COLOR OPTIONS

"YOU CAN HAVE ANY COLOUR, AS LONG AS IT'S..."

When the Chrylser Crossfire SRT-6 first was launched it was only available in Aero Blue, Black, Graphite Metallic, Sapphire Silver Blue. Later, first in 2006 the color Machine Gray was introduced. See pictures in the column to the right for samples. Have you seen Crossfires in any other color? That is because the Chrysler Crossfire NA version was available in more colors such as Alabaster White, Bright Silver, Classic Yellow, Blaze or Inferno Red*, and Oyster Gold. Inferno Red and Blaze Red are said to be the same color with paint code PRH, 591. All 2004 red Chrylser Crossfire NA were sold with Blaze Red Crystal Clearcoat. In 2006 the color was "changed" to "Inferno Red Crystal Clearcoat. See pictures in the right column for samples of colors. For more information about available exterior and interior color combinations from factory, see the color chart "exterior colors" from Chrysler in the column to the right. Note: one color is missing in that leaflet. Can you guess which one? Correct, Graphite Metallic. My best guess is, as the data from Chrysler is from 2006, that the color simply had been discontinued. However, it is worth to mention that there are re-painted SRT-6 out there. For example, The Albino SRT-6 and "SMEXY" are Alabaster White and the Black Series SRT-6 is re-painted in Copper. Several other aftermarket colors have been seen as plasti-dipping is getting popular. This method is only recommended as a short term solution or for protecting the paint underneath. See photos of colorful SRT-6 in the SRT-6 Paint Job Gallery.

EXTERIOR PAINT CODES

To be sure you get the correct color, give out your VIN so they can double check the paint code. Beware: paint codes are different from each color manufacturer and can have different shades. So if you are re-painting, then try to look at samples and/or use their color sample gun on your vehicle as it sits today. For more paint codes information from MOPAR, Sherwin Williams, Paintscratch.com and Automotive Touch Up see details in the column to the right.

WHEEL PAINT CODES

The wheel paint codes are also important if you are in need of some touch up or full restoration. The paint codes are as follows:
  • Chrylser Crossfire NA wheels: PAK, XZA aka Satin silver, 9969
Note: Chrysler OEM paint touch up brush #05179660AA
  • Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 wheels are cast aluminum. They are not painted, just sprayed with clear coat laquer spraypaint.
  • Chrysler Crossfire Special Edition (SE) wheels are the same as the SRT-6 except from having the insides and 5 grooves on the center cap painted dark gray. This color is unknown. DO YOU KNOW THIS?

WINDSHIELD, INTERIOR AND OTHER TRIM PAINT CODES
  • Windshield surroundings, handles, side strakes and other trim have the same paint code as the Crossfire NA wheels Satin Silver XZA which translates into Mercedes Benz color code 9969.
  • Interior A-pillar paint code: DO YOU KNOW THIS?
  • Interior dash silver trim paint code: DO YOU KNOW THIS?

EASIEST ROUTE IN FINDING YOUR COLOR / PAINT CODES

Check the following MOPAR paint codes guide [[url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220602091124/http://srt-6.com/dataphotos/colors/paintguide.pdf]HERE] for more information and details.

FUNNY FACT

If you remove the rear bumper you will be able to see a sticker with the OEM paint name. See picture in the column to the right.

FOR MORE AFTERMARKET COLORS

As mentioned earlier, be sure to check out the "Paint Jobs" gallery [[url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220602091124/http://srt-6.com/gallery/paintjobs.html]HERE] for more color combinations.

INSTRUCTIONS

You’ll need to remove the plastic pass-throughs from the OEM intakes that are next to the radiator on both sides. A real PITA to remove but can be done to keep them intact incase you want to go back to stock later on. I ended up snapping both of mine off (got impatient and frustrated) so mine will be staying this way. The driver’s side opening is smaller (like around 2.5” – 2.75” ) so the 3” tube will deform into a “D” shape going through the opening. I used a single T-bolt clamp where the 70 Deg. Tube butts up to the filter box tube. Just made sure it aligned right over the joint where they meet inside the couplers. All told, average price is under $300 depending on where the parts are procured. All parts shown are what I used for my particular setup. The silicon tubing is also available in black and red. You may also find other sites that carry other colors, like yellow and green. Just make sure that it’s at least 3 layers, The more layers, the harder it is to collapse. Also I had to trim the outer flange all the way back to the rectangular opening on the brake ducts to make them fit right.

Srt-6 Engine

YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT, THE STOCK OUTPUT OF THIS 3.2 LITER V6 BEAUTY IS 349 BHP / 354 PS!

Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6, Mercedes SLK32 AMG and C32 AMG all share an engine based on the 3.2-litre (3199 cc) V6 that in its naturally aspirated (NA), non supercharged form already develops 163kW (221 PS) and 310Nm, goes 0–60 mph in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 245 km/h (152 mph). However, the supercharged version lifts peak torque by more than 45% and power by a staggering 63%!

THE SRT-6 OFFICIAL ENGINE PERFORMANCE FIGURES

NOTE! THE OFFICIAL ENGINE PERFORMANCE FIGURES WERE LOWERED DUE TO MARKETING STRATEGY SEE RED FOR TRUE FIGURES

Type and Description: Supercharged, 90-degree bank angle, liquid-cooled and twin ignition

Displacement: 195.2 cu. in. (3199 cu. cm)

Bore x Stroke: 3.54 x 3.31 (89.9 x 84)

Valve System: SOHC, two intake valves and one exhaust valve per cylinder, roller rocker arms

Fuel Injection: Sequential, multi-port, electronic

Construction: High-pressure die-cast alu alloy block with Silitec alloy liners and cast-aluminum alloy heads

Compression Ratio: 9.0:1

Official Power: (SAE net) 330 bhp (246 kW) @ 6,100 rpm

Official Torque: (SAE net) 310 lb.-ft. (420 Nm) @ 3500-4800 rpm

True Power: (SAE net) 349 bhp (354 PS) (260 kW) @ 6,100 rpm

True Torque: (SAE net) 332 lb.-ft. (450 Nm) @ 4400

0-60 mph, 0-100 km/h: 4.8 sec, 5.2 sec

1/8, 1/4 Mile: 8.x sec, 13.x sec

Top Speed mph, km/h: 155 mph, 250 km/h limiter

Max. Engine Speed: 6,400 rpm electronically limited

Fuel Requirement: Unleaded premium—91 Octane (R+M)/2

Oil Capacity: 8.5 qt. (8.0L) with dry filter

Coolant Capacity: 11.8 qt. (11.2L)

Emission Controls: Three-way catalytic converters and internal engine features (a)

Max. Gross Trailer Weight: Not recommended

Estimated EPA Fuel Economy mpg (City/Hwy): 17/22—automatic transmission (b)

(a) Meets LEV 1 requirements for California, NY, MA, ME, VT; meets Tier 2, Bin 9 for all other states. Meets Stage IV emission requirements in Europe.

(b) Compare the estimated mpg to the estimated mpg of other vehicles. You may get different mileage depending on how fast you drive, weather conditions and trip length. Your actual highway mileage will probably be less than the highway estimate.

THE SRT-6 TRUE ENGINE PERFORMANCE FIGURES

At the launch of the SRT-6, as mentioned above, the official performance figures of the SRT-6 was lowered due to a marketing strategy. The Mercedes SLK R170 32 AMG was supposed to be superior in performance and to be seen as more luxurious than the SRT-6. It had to be worth its higher MSRP price tag of $54,000 compared to the SRT-6 having the base price tag of $44,820 (coupe) $49,170 (roadster). The solution was to market the SRT-6 with lower performance figures, for example the BHP was promoted being only 330 BHP instead of its true 349 BHP (354 PS). Chrysler officials and members in the SRT-6 manufacturing team have confirmed this information. The statement from Jeff Reece, Crossfire Development Engineer found in the SRT-6 History video "... SLK 32 AMG claimed about 350 BHP... Same engine (as SRT-6)...and we had better cooling... so our output should have been a bit higher..." gives us even more tangible proof backing up this story. Therefore, this SRT-6 engine pumps out 260kW at 6100 rpm and 450Nm at 4400 rpm. 349 BHP (354 PS) stock was and still is a high amount of power and torque into such a small body. With a good launch you can reach 0-60 mph in this automatic transmission car in 4.8 seconds and running the 1/4 mile in 13 seconds!

IMPROVED ENGINE

So what have the engineers done to this V6 engine to so radically increase its power in the SRT-6? As you might expect, it's no ordinary bolt-on conversion. The 90-degree V6 was heavily revised for its new high-boost forced aspiration role with the supercharger. Interestingly, most internal alterations were aimed at improving durability, rather than breathing. Mechanical changes included:

- A new crankshaft with bearings adapted to the higher output torque

- New connecting rods

- Pistons of a "highly temperature-resistant material"

- A new balance shaft

- Lightweight "assembled" camshafts

- Harder valve springs

- A new oil pump with a higher output, supplying to oil nozzles that in turn are upgraded in flow by 70 percent

- The exhaust was re-designed to incorporate four low back-pressure thin-wall catalytic converters, and the airflow meter normally fitted to the 3.2 liter six was discarded and replaced with manifold pressure sensing.

Srt-6 Product numbers

SRT-6 PRODUCTION NUMBERS

VINTAGE RARITY WITH ONLY A FEW EVER MADE

The SRT-6 with only 4071 ever manufactured is a true rarity breed indeed. Chrysler and CICCI official numbers, revealed on the 23rd November 2013, can be found in the table below. As revealed, we find a total much larger than estimated earlier amongst SRT-6 enthusiasts. Data shows that a total of 4071 SRT-6 (2571 coupes and 1500 roadsters) were produced. First ever SRT-6 rolling of the assembly line was a coupe 5X025366 and is currently located in Florida, USA. The last produced SRT-6 coupe 6X069067 together with SRT-6 roadster 6X069395 left Karmann in Osnabrück, Germany on the 12th of June 2006.

SRT-6 SUPERCHARGER - IHI S105

THE CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE SRT-6 PACEMAKER

Unlike the Roots-type Eaton blower used on the supercharged Mercedes four cylinder engines, the 260kW engine uses a very sophisticated Lysholm-type supercharger produced by IHI in Japan. Driven at 3.3 times crankshaft speed, the helical lobe supercharger develops up to 1 Bar (14.5 psi) of boost. One of its two cast aluminum rotors is Teflon-coated (it's the yellow one), and the supercharger drive is through an air-conditioning style electromagnetic clutch. Despite the high efficiency of this design of supercharger, the blower still requires 45kW to power it when the engine is at its 6220 max rpm. Of course, the blower is also then flowing a lot of air - up to 1200kg per hour of it, in fact.

In order that the supercharger could be fitted into the already tight confines of the R170 bodies, it has been mounted within the 'V' of the V6. Sandwiched between the supercharger and the inlet manifold is a reverse-flow heat exchanger for a water/air intercooling system. Aimed specifically at reducing temperature peaks (an area where Mercedes-AMG engineers believe that an air/air system can be less effective), the system has its own radiator and electric water pump. The complete supercharger and intercooler system adds only 25kg of mass - so the power/weight ratios of the two cars equipped with the upgraded drivetrain are radically improved!

The supercharger engages only as required; when it is not being driven, the intake air flows through its rotors (i.e. no external bypass is fitted). Supercharger operation is dictated by the Bosch ME 2.8.1 engine management system on the basis of engine speed and load. However, the supercharger, which is driven from the engine's serpentine belt, will not engage at engine speeds over 3000 rpm - if this occurred, the belt stresses would be too high. If required, the engine can develop 400Nm from 2300 rpm to 6100 rpm. Thankfully, the better breathing and engagement-on-demand characteristics of the supercharger have not turned the engine into a polluting and thirsty monster. The Supercharger maximum rpm is around 20.000 rpm but safe maximum value to keep the life of the supercharger is about 15.500 rpm. LOOKING FOR A SPARE SUPERCHARGER FOR YOUR SRT-6?

In the beginning NEW superchargers were available to buy from IHI distributors. Quote from Judy, Sales/marketing at IHI Turbo America in 07-24-2004. “The S105 is available from IHI Japan. Delivery time for this unit is 4 months. You will have to purchase this unit though one of our Distributors. A list can be found on our website www.ihi-turbo.com …” Note the date of the quote, it was HDDP and others on the CrossfireForum who were checking the specifics on the supercharger that would soon be mounted on the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6.

Today, the S105 are not available to buy NEW. The SRT-6 pacemaker is a rarity but if you are lucky and search thoroughly, you may get your hands on one, after having spent about 1500-4000 USD. Cost will vary depending on what parts (IC, Manifolds, SC Pulley etc.) that will end up in your deal but be ready to cough up some cash. As Mercedes SLK32 AMG and C32 AMG uses the same supercharger as in our Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6, the chance of finding one is at least better. Check both USA and European markets, but surely, start off by checking SRT-6.com own CrossfireMarket.

HOW ABOUT REPAIRING?

Changing supercharger oil and/or swapping out a supercharger pulley are no big deal. Check the DIY section for more information. But if you are unlucky and get oil leakage behind the black magnet you will as of today not find a DIY to fix this. Even Rob at NeedSwings cannot get gaskets to the front of the supercharger. We are currently investigating on what bearings/seals that is needed to be changed, stay tuned. However, there is hope and help to be found elsewhere. PSE Superchargers quote 1.695,00 USD for a fully remanufactured supercharger and your core must be shipped in for remanufacture.

"This Supercharger and all IHI’s are very complicated. We have no problem remanufacturing these as we have a great process used to remove and re secure the new bearing in place. Currently we are looking at a 30day lead time for the next available rebuild for your style of Supercharger. We are the only authorized Mercedes remanufacturing company for these Superchargers manufactured by either Eaton Corp or IHI Japan and have all of the original service parts in stock."

Contact Edward Martinez at 405-844-2773 or e-mail him [[email]https://web.archive.org/web/20220331040300/psesuperchargers@gmail.com] if you are in need of assistance.

SUPERCHARGER ON/OFF TESTING

Waldig over at CrossfireForum did a test to see when the SRT-6 supercharger is actually engaging and came up with the result, that above 1500 rpm in drive, it is activated. However, in neutral and/or park, the supercharger does not engage. In more detail, see below what the tests made by Waldig shows regarding when the SRT-6 supercharger is engaged, being on, or disengaged, being off.

The supercharger is off when:

  • The car is off
  • The engine is on and the transmission is in park or neutral (idle) or in reverse.

The supercharger is on (has the clutch power on) when:

  • The car is in gear, not moving and the throttle is above 1500 revs.
  • You are driving forward and the engine is above 1500 rpm the first time.

It stays on until:

  • You come to a complete stop
  • You shift out of gear (neutral) while still moving
  • It goes back on when you go back into gear (1,2,3,D) and the transmission re-engages
  • You coast over 30 seconds (not speed related)

FUNNY FACTS

When removing the intercooler (IC) from the supercharger (SC) I could see the internals of the SC and noticed a numbering on the rotor blades. It said "C8-33" and what it indicates will probably forever be unknown. Also on the snout / mounting rod, a number have been written, "8720".

Default re: Backup from SRT-6

The SRT6 site contained a lot of info taken from this CrossfireForum.org site as well as new information.
Fubu started the site and it seems to have lost its steam when he sold his car.
This .org site has much more info than the SRT6 site ever had.
FB has weakened this .org site, much of the info on FB came from this site, in fact one of my posts from this site was quoted word for word on FB with no mention of its origin.
The SRT6 site is the third Crossfire site to fold, let’s keep the .org site going.
