Best Replacment Speakers?
I'm looking to replace the factory speakers with a nice set of separates that will fill the factory holes in the doors and the rear subs as-well. Separates seem to only be available in 2-ways sets thus leaving out the rear subs.
What is recommended to fill the factory holes without looking aftermarket and can the stock head unit push aftermarket speakers effectively?

First off you need to look at a 2 ohm speaker set up for the front if you plan on keeping the factory amp and radio. Otherwise you will cut the output power of the factory amp in half. JBl GTO or Infinity Kappa will fit with no modification to the doors.
Second, the factory amplifier also includes an eq, compression and limiter circuits, along with a virtual center channel processor.
So the question you need to ask yourself is... is it the overall sound or overall volume that you would like to improve.
If it is sound, the factory components are quite good but the bottom octaves could be improved by adding a small sub system in the trunk.
If it is volume than a larger amplifier piggybacked off the factory amplifier around 75 watts per channel @ 2 ohms will get you move volume from the doors.

Thanks for the detailed response.
I actually have the mid in the drivers door that is popping (blown) and thought it best to install aftermarket rather than factory. Should I continue my path towards aftermarket and what about the subs behind the seats?
Thanks...

If the speakers in your door are "blown" replace them with a set of Infinity speakers and install a set of "Bass Blockers" with a cutoff at 150 hz. You can find everything you need at the crutchfield.com website plus lots of useful info. They have a good site and you call always call them for help with your install. The amp and speakers the car came with are top notch but there is no cut off for the door speakers so the bass is too much for them. With the cut offs you can turn up the bass and really make those subs work! I have installed the cutoffs in my car and it really makes it sound great. Hope this helps.

As to bass response in the front speakers and the overall performance of the sound system, here's a thread that has discussed tweaking the stock system. It's very detailed and actually works! https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ead.php?t=9938
I'd replace the speakers with same like and kind and do the suggested mod from the link. THEN ... pass judgment on the sound system. I did the mod and run my bass at +2 (CD) and +4 (radio). I have a friend that does car stereo custom installs and he's quite impressed with the stock system. Now as to the Becker head ... that's another topic.

Hi Upstate,
All depends on what I'm playing. Up to plus 6 on some cd's. I have installed Big amp's and 12 inch subs in some of the cars I have had and I admit that the stock system in our Crossfires will not put that kind of bass but I think it sounds very good as is. I really don't want to put a large box in the back for a sub. Not much room there as it is. lol. Follow the link in the msg above to the thread on "best bang for the buck" stereo mod. The bass blockers from crutchfield are very easy to install and only cost about $10 bucks a set. It's money well spent.

If you have the $$$ go for the A/D/S speakers. I replaced my factory speakers with the A/D/S and oh my goodness the tone/amplitude quality are worlds apart, and I actually like Infinity speakers.
I have a question... What are the size of the subs that are in our cars??? I felt really stupid being that it took me almost a week to find them.

There isn't really a "best speaker" for out cars. If you want a "best speaker", then you are looking at something like Focal Utopia Be, or Alpine F#1 speakers, which are about $6,000 - $7,000 a pair. Go to a few stereo shops (ones that know what they are doing, not best buy CC, no offence to anyone who works/d at one but we fix their screw-up all the time) and listen to speakers they have and let your ears tell you what's best. Everyone likes different sounds, and every speaker manufacture speakers have a distinct sound, which is why there are so many successful speaker companies out there. If they all sounded the same, we wouldn't need so many brands. I have MB Quarts in my doors, and they were almost a direct replacement since German speaker, German car. The only modification I made which is removing 2 small centering tabs from the factory speaker mount. The key is going to be the installation. Do your homework and find out who is reputable in your area for having QUALITY installations. not the flashy ones, the ones that you can't see, and sound great.
