Radar Detectors...

I took my own advice and did a "search" and also found this:
http://www.dfwsbr.com/crossfire/faq/radar/
Also from "Midnightman" 8/7/06 posting....
The fuse panel on the driver's side only serves items that receive power when the lights are on. I wanted to use one of those for my sirius radio but none had power when the headlights were off.
I was trying these fuses and had even turned the lights on but I probably didn't have a good ground.

Hello,
After tons of research over this subject I got myself a Beltronics RX65.
Just got it last week so I will update you guys on its performance.
After all my research I came to the conclusion that the the top three Radars in the Market (no specific order) are:
- Valentine one
- Beltronics RX65
- Passport 8500
I know lots of people here live and die for the Valentine, but I also found tons of people out there who loves the RX 65 or the Passport 8500.-- At the end of the day it comes to the same as "what's better Coke or Pepsi??"
I believe as long as you have one of these three radars you can't go wrong (unless you live in Virginia get an STI!!)
One reason that made me decide for the RX65 was that the Valentine is not very pretty or aesthetic
Thank you all for your input and opinions on all the threads on this subject

Anyone know which color the wire is for the garage door opener in the harness in the left pillar.I want to hardwire a radar detector into the "switched" hot wire only when the ignition is "ON"

OK HERE IS SOME USEFUL INFORMATION: UPDATED
See the link below to see where to access this and illustrations on how to thanks to member DFWSBR from another post.
http://www.dfwsbr.com/crossfire/faq/radar/
There are 6 wires of different colors.
The one that has the green stripes around it is the "SWITCHED WIRE" which means it only has 12V power going through it when the ignition is switched" to "ON/RUN".
This is ideal for direct wiring radar detectors. You can then connect the ground wire to the bolt in the chassis down beside the fuse panel just inside the drivers door.
Be sure to remove the paint where the wire is connected.
You need to pull back the trim strip inside the door to see these bolts. (photo 4 shown in link)

Just got a Passport 8500 on my B-Day (26th Dec). It's what my mom has in her Crossfire. So far it had found all the PA cops my eyes have seen, before they can see them. Mostly Ka, X, and laser here in PA.
Bottom line... A RADAR detector is only good if the cop is shooting RADAR at the car before you and you pick up the signal before he locks you. Once your detector beeps you still have to react and hit the hooks. By that time you may be owned. You have to rely on a combination of eyesight, radar detectors, common sense, and luck. Just like how people brag here about top speeds and races they have won... The police brag and trade war stories over the fastest ticket or the biggest A-hole they wrote a ticket to. It's a game and sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.... At least thats the way I see it
