Aftermarket Pioneer headunit, getting back subwoofers to work?
Hey.. this is something that has always bothered me but never really took the time to ask / figure out...
I have a pioneer deh-4800mp headunit... not the best & probably lacking a ton of features that expensive headunits have... I only bought it so I could hook up my iPod and that it matches the interior quite nicely...
Anyways, it seems like it is not putting out any bass on my back subwoofers.. (I know they suck anyways, but they are literally doing nothing!)
I'm not really a stereo guru, so... it feels like all of the bass is coming out of the big speakers on the doors.
My stereo has a few options that I don't really know if they will make a difference
1. High pass filter, not really sure what this does
2. It has an option to set the "rear speakers" as "sub-woofer" only...I used the Scosche wiring harness & i'm not sure if I bypassed the factory amp or not so I don't know if they truly are sub-woofers only or not..
3. it also has an option that is "reverse subwoofer"... not sure what this does..
i tried reading my manual but everything I tried my back subwoofers don't do anything.. i know they are not boomboxes but with the stock headunit I was getting a little more (lot more) boom out of them!
thanks in advance

I just replaced the oem head unit, with a PANASONIC CQC7105U In-Dash Player & Sirius Tuner, and I noticed the same thing.
The in-door speakers are booming, and vibrating my left leg, and I don't feel anything from the back speakers.
I set the new head unit sub woofer setting at +2, whatever that means.
I don't know what the High Pass Filter does either.

Guess nobody knows? Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and get a new amp / subwoofer

I just finished playing with my new head unit and Sirius.
I am getting sound from the 2 rear speakers, as well as all the others.
The big door speakers are working; but, no longer seem to vibrate my leg.
The High Pass filter does change the sound.
The default setting is "off".
Hell, I am kind of deaf. So, I don't know what I'm worried about?
Everything sounds good to me and I love satellite radio, which is why I removed the oem head unit. It doesn't have an input for satellite.

Try fading the sound to the rear to see if they play....I just faded a lil bass to the rear and adjusted the highs, and mids. Hope it helps a little.
You have to make sure you connected the Blue/wht amp turn on wire so it turns on both the factory amps . It depends on what brand harness you used as you may need to switch a wire or two around since the CrossFire uses a VW/Audi harness and not one dedicated to this car model . The Subwoofer "reverse" setting is mainly for use in long SUVs where a aftermarket subwoofer in back connected to an amp is a long way from the front speakers . It changes the phase so that the sound waves meet at the proper time with the front image . It changes nothing if you are not using a seperate subwoofer/amp setup .
There are several settings which will affect the output to your front speakers/factory rears etc and some that do nothing without outboard amps . The HP/Highpass setting filters out any low Bass frequences (120Hz and below usually) to any front speakers connected to the speaker output wires from the headunit . This is good as most speakers smaller than 8" really have a hard time producing those frequences without distorting badly . With this set to "on" you will be able to get more volume before distortion from the door speakers . Drawback is the rear factory Bass speakers (notice I didn't call them Subwoofers, they are really too small ) are on the same output as the door speakers so with this "on" the rear will basically output nothing because the factory amp for them has a built in LoPass crossover to filter out anything above 120Hz . I am using a Panasonic CQ-C7431U with the HP filter switched to "on" but I have a 10" subwoofer in the hatch area and it sounds great . The factory rear speakers are basically idle as I want them to be and the frount speakers are very loud and clear. Your radio probably has a Bass/Mid/Treble and a loudness feature also which will affect the front speaker sound but the "subwoofer level" adjustment will only adjust the outputs to a seperate aftermarket sub amplifier just as the "reverse" setting does .
If the radio has additional "sound field" settings like Rock , Jazz , Pop etc , leave them off as they only add to the distortion . Set one or two of the custom EQ setting as you prefer and enjoy .
Hope this helps ...

Sorry to gravedig, as it didn't seem to help very much.
I put in my stock headunit, and on a certain test song the back subwoofers/speakers really push out air, I can REALLY feel it. I put the same song on my pioneer headunit, and I can feel just a tad bit of air.
Would it maybe be the fact that I crimped them back? I don't think I do, but I am human. Or another setting?
It makes it difficult.. ipod auxiliary input vs ipod fm transmittion and all the speakers working perfectly..
