Thumbs up Adding an Aux Input to the Stock Stereo

All, I read a thread on one of the M-B forums earlier today and found out that Becker can mod stock head units to allow for an aux input for things like ipod and XM. The thread dealt with several models of the Stock M-B stereo, but since the Crossfire unit is electrically identical to the M-B unit it might be worth checking out. The thread's author said he called Becker to arrange for the mod to be done. Here's the website with contact info:

Who wants to take this one and run with it?

I would like to see that happen, don't know why they can't since the NAV radio has an optical port why can the base radio? how much is this mod?

That's the way I interpret the Becker website section on Crossfire head units.

You obviously didn't read my original post completely. You have to CALL THEM and arrange to have your unit modified from its stock config.

Thanks for the clarification.
Too bad, I already bought a new head unit in order to add Sirius satellite radio.

Guys, I have been working with the supplier that makes an MP3 adapter for the Mercedes SLK. The adaptor needs some modifications to enable it to work with the Infinity Amplifier. I tested a prototype in my car and it works great. I don't know when it will be available but the supplier told me that he was working on a production version and that it was going to take him a little time.
Updates will be posted in this thread:

BeckerUSA can't make your stock infinity into an upgraded version, they just can do repairs like change boards and maybe a resistor or chip, I doubt they have the ability or skills to do R&D work, why would they even want too?

I hope the guy with the aftermarket cable can pull this off because I really don't want to buy another radio, this one rocks just fine!

SO, there is a phone input to these radios, but that only provides momo sound.

I doubt that this input would be band limited, so we just need a way to get stereo in via the phone pins, and remove the mono.

I am going to look at it if no one else has already done it but would hat to rereverse engineer a solution that may have already been done.

or go get a blue tooth head as I spend mor e time on teh phone that enjoying driving it seems.

Anyone get the phone input to work ? A bluetooth phone adaptor would be terrific.

Finding a way to get AUX inputs to the factory stock Non-Nav unit must be like the holy grail.

I don't know why someone would locate the Becker web site, that has the phone number listed, and then post a message suggesting someone call them? What - long distance too expensive or is your phone blocking toll free calls?

Ladies - I called Becker (said this in several posts)

Yes. It's brute simple. You get one channel - mono - and the stereo turns off when you use it. Choose left or right speaker in the User menu

Thanks.

I found another thread for using the Moto bluetooth phone kit, just need to purchase an inexpensive adaptor from Becker and your all set for the upgrade. Definitely a good upgrade now that hands free is the law of the land in California.

I have two words for you:

Cold Fusion

The challenge to this is to achieve it without spending more money and time than the cost and time to install a new head unit that provides superior functionality out of the box.

I admit to abject failure in this quest to have AUX inputs in the factory unit, and wholeheartedly invite anyone to try.

Having achieved a different form of nirvana, I would not now go back to the pretty little factory unit.

I would seriously look at replacing the unit. The money you will spend and time involved if, big if ???, it can be done isn't worth it. You can buy an I-Pod friendly unit for under 200$.

I bought a Blaupunkt London MP48 to replace the factory stereo so I could use the ipod. I also bought the ipod connector cable from Blaupunkt. Here is what I found....

The connectors in the back of my London MP48 and factory radio are IDENTICAL. This includes the connector for the ipod. I didn't try using the Blaupunkt ipod cable in the factory radio but it looks like a perfect match. Made me wonder if it would work but I never tried or bothered because I love the new radio!

The new radio plays MP3 discs that show song titles and everything on the display. The front jack is great for whatever I feel like plugging in. It has much more settings and options... including a mute button (which I personally love). The color match is perfect with the interior. It was the best 130 dollars I ever spent and took me 10 minutes to plug in and install. I ordered it from Crutchfield... no tax or shipping fees. It came with all the keys and adaptors I needed. I literally slid the old radio out, plugged in the new rado and slid it back. I didn't need to mess with any wires and I can always plug my old radio back in. I am a novice and was scared to install myself... but was easy and worth the enjoyment!
