I'll just "chime" in here rather then finding my old post and just confirm that a new battery solved all my alarming problems. (well, on the Xfire, anyway). I had the situation where it would go off randomly and in spurts, dying bird chirping, that whole scenario. I couldn't get the fob to work or start the car (without a boost) and even when it was boosted and started, the alarm would pull the same stuff after turning the car off and trying again.
Simplest solution is what I should have tried first - new battery!

Gotcha, Midlife. I went and had that thing tested and they said that it was alright, but it's the original and I've got the oldie-but-goldie '04, so I'm sure it's probably about time it went. Embarrassingly enough, I lifted the hood when the horn was going off (with the intent of ripping it out with my bare hands and throwing it into the roadway to be smashed to smithereens by some large random truck) and noticed the negative terminal on my battery was completely corroded. Whoops. Oh well. Everything's trash, it just hasn't been thrown away yet. Anyhow, the dude did tell me the alternator was getting a little weak and that I might be looking to replace that in the not-so-distant future. For now, I'm gonna go ahead and remove that ridiculous sounding siren and then replace the battery when I get around to it. I run on Indian time, so who knows when that'll happen! lol Freakin' Cherokees...

Well I finally got some time with the car this week. I replaced the siren unit with a new one. In addition to having the battery tested, which I was told is fine, to my surprise as it is original from '04. And after 48 hours everything seems fine, no dying birds and everything locks and unlocks as it should.
Hope this helps everyone.

Hey guys , just wanted to share with you that any problem
youre having with your alarm that does any of the following
will indicate that the siren is bad and needs to be replaced

Alarm going off at random with or without alarm being active
Alarm siren going off while driving
Alarm Lights flashing but no siren going off

Had same problems. replaced siren and its been 5 months with
no problems. FYI: when you get the new siren (150$) you will now hear a chirp when you lock the car. unlike the old siren where you would lock it and you would just see the lights flash.

Cheers!

FYI: The installation process is not that hard cant remember the post where I got the info from but its here on the forum just do a quick search for alarm problems and you should land it. thanks!

BenzFire,
Yeah, I did the siren replacement and that certainly seemed to fix the issue and surprisingly easy to replace, too. I'm just glad the thing isn't pissing off the neighbors anymore or sounding like a drowning bird when I drive down the road! lol
