I just got a new key fob from my dealer last week.. $146.00 ...... took 3 days. Dealer said it didn't have to go to Germany. Came out of Texas. Had to have your Vin #. Still needed to do the simple programing instructed on this forum for free, to open and lock doors and panic button. Dealer said their charge to do that program was $45. Save the $$$ do it yourself! Ebay keys don't work.

Do you know if once a keys been programmed to open/lock doors, it can be reprogrammed for another car?

I bought eBay keys for the casing, switched out the transponder/key, but not the motherboard. It starts the car fine, and unlocks it with the door handle, but I cannot for the life of me seem to program it for the buttons to work.

Yes it should, do you have the instructions for programming it? I'll see if I can find them real quick.

Edit: Found it

STANDARD PROCEDURE - TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

The Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter(s) can be programmed by the customer without special tools.
PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE

Transmitter programming by the customer is done by performing the following steps:
  1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
  2. Press either the lock or unlock button momentarily twice.
Turn the key in the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 30 seconds.

Hope this is useful and saves you $100.

Shawn

Each key is programedand cut for a specific VIN. I don't think any old key can be reprogrammed for a diferant vehicle eveen if you could change the actual cut key part.

Dave,
Be very careful with replacement cases. Reading on this forum, if you search for it, replacement of the case is not as straightforward as you would think. It has been done, but from reading on this forum, a very delicate operation. On the forum somewhere, I remember reading a Good Post, with pictures and instructions. I will Contact you if I find it. I have just purchased a New Key from " Keys & Fobs", as I had a problem with mine, as well as it looking a bit chatty.

Maybe I am not reading this right? The comments below copied/pasted here:

Includes up to 2 Chrysler product (Dodge, Jeep, Plymouth and Chrysler) keys cut and retrieval of your key code when available. Please add this item after you have made your key selection. This item does not include the cost of the keys nor does it include any transponder key programming that you may need.

So, what actually does this mean?

Now I'm wondering.. as the main tittle states "cut and code"
Guess those in need could place a call and confirm... might just be fishing bait here too..
