Default Electrical problems

I have a 2005 Crossfire Coupe Limited edition. Recently all of the idiot lights came on and the odometer and the speedometer stopped working. I used a hand held code reader and got a P0600, Serial communication error code. The local Chrysler dealer says they don't have the adapters to diagnose the problem and the local Mercedes deal says they don't work on these cars. Any thought besides trial and erro replacing computer componets?

Go to an Independent repair shop that works on Mercedese. Do not go to dealers.

Hi Jeff,
Sounds like you might have a CAN BUS issue. You can measure the CAN BUS resistance, if you get around 60 ohms, then at least you know the wiring is okay, and it's probably one of the modules that has an issue. I had a no crank issue where a splice on the can bus failed. I don't remember the ECU connector or pins to test, but it's fairly straightforward. You can look at my posts for "no crank" to get the details or look through the service manual (which is downloadable from this site).
Good luck, sincerely
-Jerry

That is what happens when the brake controller is not powered up, usually due to a bad Traction control relay on the RCM or blown traction control fuse on the RCM. (You will have brakes, but they will be 1960s era brakes, with no electronic controls.)

Check every fuse on the RCM, if they are OK, order a new RCM and yank the RCM you have and send it to DJ for rebuild, so you have a spare. The RCM unplugs WITHOUT tools, I have talked owners thru replacing the RCM on the side of the road, while on the phone with them. Again, no tools required, just DO NOT PULL ON THE WIRES, work each connector loose by grasping only the connectors, not the wires.

Order this one:

DO NOT believe the website that says it won't fit a Crossfire, it will.
