Windshield trim removal and installation.
"I can see clearly now" - Johnny Nash.
Sven gets a new windshield.

February 6, 2024.

There's a line from the movie "Cannonball Run" spoken by Mel Tillis... "I can't see ****! Can you?".
That's how it was driving my car at night. The windshield was so pitted that every time headlights would come at me, I would see halos and get blinded. Signs were hard to read, etc...
I had to spend the money for safety's sake, and I'm so glad that I did! What a difference!
Anyway, here are pictures with captions on how I did it.
Credit goes to zip439 for his original write up.

You may want to consider a product that helps keep night time glare down and sheds water really well now that you have a new windshield. I had the windshield on my SRT 6 coated and am very happy with it. After initial coating the company will send you refresher pads to use every 3 months. My car is sorta a garage queen so I stretch that out to about 6 months. Easy to apply the refresher. Look it up :

Awesome write-up! This should be made a "sticky". Pictures removed @ quote, redundant. Thanks John!

Ditto That!! It's been really interesting to see what & how he is getting things into shape on the Crossfire.

Thanks, I'll check this out!
This seems like a much better long term solution. I have applied RainX temporarily for now.
I try not to drive my car in the rain, but you never know when mother nature will strike!

That's great!
I also have to give credit where credit is due. It was your idea to post about my car as I worked on it.
If it wasn't for your suggestion, there would be no "Journey".

Thank you!

Thank you for the kind words!
I have to thank Valk for the idea that started the journey. I'll keep posting as I go along.

"Through the Looking Glass" - Lewis Carroll (Well, a new windshield anyways).
February 7, 2024.

I had the windshield replaced by Safelite Auto Glass.
The technician was in shocked when he walked into my garage and saw how easy his job was going to be!
I had removed all of the trim (as seen in the previous post), the wipers, wiper cowl and had the car positioned so that he had enough space to work around it.
The funny thing was, he told me he had studied how to remove the trim the night before and was nervous as hell about doing it! He was very careful and very neat with my car.
I never new that the new windshield had the rear view mirror mount already on it. He was done very quickly.
Here are a some pictures:

R.C.M. (No, I'm not talking about the Royal Canadian Mounties!)

February 12, 2024.

I decide to do the smart thing and send my original Relay Control Module out to tighed1 to have it rebuilt.
There was nothing going on with it, but why wait for a known problem to occur? Also the original one doesn't allow you to honk the horn while the key is out.
This seemed like a big safety issue to me. Imagine some jack wagon backing up and you can't honk your horn to warn them! I had a new one to use while my original was being refurbished.
Here are the usual pictures with descriptions. Hopefully they will help people who haven't done this yet.

Why bother to change back to the old RCM? Save the hassle and go with the new one, you may break something by accident. That’s what I did, I put in the spare to see it worked OK, it did so I left it in.

The reason why I put the refurbished one back in is because the horn works without the key in the ignition.

As I said in the title of the post; What if you're sitting in your car and some idiot is backing up and is going to hit you?
With the brand new RCM you can't honk the horn without the key in the ignition. By the time you put the key in the ignition, turn it to the on position and then hit your horn, you have a dented car.

With the refurbished one by tighed1, I could honk the horn without the key and hopefully the idiot would stop and not hit my car.

I have a nice little ding on my SRT 6 front bumper from just such an incident. I had not got around to making the "Horny all the time" fix and another Crossfire backed into me while I was pushing on a useless horn. I got home and immediately closed the gate after the cow was out.

Good call M60A3Driver

Ladies and Gentlemen... The Doors!
Svengoolie gets his door pulls reinforced. Part 1 of 2
February 22, - February 26, 2024.

After reading posts about people's inner door pull handles breaking, I wanted to find away to prevent this.
I found a couple of posts here and on facebook on how to repair the broken ones. So I combined parts of both of those posts that I liked and modified it for more of a preventative maintenance solution.
Here's how I did the work on my car:
