Default 2024 Single DIN Wireless CarPlay solution ( Found )

Here was my requirements

1. Did not want a single din to large screen where it would either block my lower console buttons or my AC controls. I live in Florida, and AC is, well, a god-given requirement.

2. Did not want to have to modify or destroy my center console

3. Wanted Carplay and Andriod Auto

4. Needed to be easy to return if it did not work

5. had a good built in mic or external mic for hand free calling and be able to respond to hey siri / hey google

I saw a few of Random name Chinese stuff from Amazon and eBay but then came across the Honda S2000 forum as the radio hides under a single din flap and can not have a big screen single din solution. A user bought and used now for a year plus this Power Acoustiks CP-71W it is a Walmart exclusive but they apparently make marine radios and other things. It basically checks off all the items on my list.

I can walk into any Walmart with it; if I need a new one, well, again, it is available at most Walmarts, and I have it shipped the next day. Options of carplay / android auto are there both wired if you want to run the USB from the back of the radio somewhere or via wireless car play/android auto. There is a front USB C port, but that is charging only. That is really the only negative I can say about it. But it does do fast charging on my iPhone.

There are physical buttons and a remote ( baby remote ) it comes with a GPS antenna for some reason but not defined in the manual why as it states in carplay/andriod auto modes that the phones GPS would be used and there is no GPS app on the head unit which looks to be a linux based unit and not android. Has lots of nice sound options and EQ. Have not done the 4 channel mod to the amp. I bought two Metra I tested the metra connector that Crutchfield said to use with and with out the RCA jack and it sounding the same no pops or crackles so to each there own on that one. the unit can support front and back camera inputs, but again, I am a little confused about whether this is a future feature as it is really not documented. If I did have one, how would I access it? Over all it sounds good the clarity is there and by itself was a massive improvement over the failing stock radio.

Still working on my 1 din Chinese radio. Looks like your solution is working. My winter home is Longboat Key, but for now I am in Michigan.

Yeah, it boots up quickly and is playing very nicely with the factory amp, which was a bigger surprise. Since the data USB is on the back, I plan on extending that cable in the future when I swap out the cup holder that won't stay down with the little storage bin. I will take my dermal and epoxy the DATA USB in for easy access if I need to update firmware.

Nice to know there are some people who are SRQ/Longboat residents who still have crossfires. I used to see a few around town, but that has been long time now. People like looking sideways at my SRT-6. She will not replace my jeeps as a daily driver but she is fun to drive.

P.S. When my Grand Cherokees get better gas mileage or equal depending on how fast I drive ( 28-32 MPG highway ) it is really hard to justify driving the crossfire every day.

Nice to always have someone in the area, even if only for the winter months.

I have been looking at the Power Accoustik unit for a week now after looking through all the single DIN options from aliexpress. My plan is run the backend USB A into a USB header somewhere inside the center console which I want to terminate in the storage compartment in the center console simlar to the way the USB-C ports are in a Tesla Model 3. My use case I want to be able drive Android Auto via USB so I can charge my phone and get AA functionality.

One question I have is have you messed with the Treble and Bass controls on the the Power Accoustik unit yet and if so does the audio sound good still? One of the complaints for the cheap Chinese units is they hae terrible DSP's and as result turning up the bass just muffles the input sound signal.

Just curious as to your results.

Thanks
Ned Williams

I have installed probably 5 different Ali Express units. Yes, they do vary in quality, but the main difference from an audio standpoint is the main chip and the amps. The particular unit that I installed has the newest "cpu" with a significant amount of cores. This greatly improves the performance and the ability to multitask. This makes the music experience more pleasant, since the unit can quickly handle multiple chores without bogging down. The amplifier chips have kind of plateaued over the last year and provide very good signal response and adjustability. The biggest change is the price to performance. There is a lot of competition and the performance that you thought would cost a lot of Ali Express money has gone down significantly.
There are still a few quirks with menu choices, but it is significantly better than three years ago. Apple Carplay and Android Auto really make things easier, but you always have native Android.

Sometimes the usb ports, front or back, do not provide a lot of power to charge. I have had cheaper units where the two back usb ports can only be used one at a time for files. The unit I have has a front end power usb that charge faster (no file transfer), but I am not sure of the back. My usb drives are in the glove compartment.

Did you need any connection adapters? What were the Metra stock #s you used?

Power Accoustik is a US company and yes the radio is made in china but it is not a rehash of other headunits. It runs a custom linux firmware. It is exclusive to Walmart. So that is the down side is that you are stuck going to walmart to get it.

Yes I have a custom EQ profile set and it plays with the factory amp just fine. Nice and loud only thing I would do is there is a port in the back for external mic I would find a good external mic and run it as the built in mic is fine when the radio is on and the car is in accessory mode but gets muffled when driving ( acceleration )

I am in the process of installing this unit right now. Luckily for me someone had already put a ln aftermarket in the car and it looks like they did all the wiring for the harness adapter for me🙌

will be having the faulty fan potentiometer fixed at the same time since I’ve already got stuff opened up. Looks like a nice unit hopefully it performs well. I’ll check back in once things are buttoned up

Note you should hooked it up before fully installing it and update it via the back USB port with the firmware download on their webpage if you are an android user.

I have iPhone. Does it have any effect on that end?

If you are using a iphone you can skip the firmware update. The firmware update only adds support for Andriod Auto

I just purchased this unit along with a backup cam from Amazon. I would like to look at installing the front cam as well for DVR duties. Wondering if anyone on this thread has installed either a front or rear facing camera on their crossfires yet, it looks like the license plate mounts that a lot of backup cams come with will not work unless I get longer license plate screws and I am waiting to see when the cam arrives if I can mount it to the underside of the hatch lid and run the wires through one of the two rubber isolators(bumpers) the hatch has on either side. With regards to a front facing camera, I am concerned about the free floating nature of the grill inserts on the crossfire, mine at least makes an audible "doi-ng!" sound every time you close the hood so I can only imagine what that would do to a camera sensor.

comments welcome.

Just ordered this as I've been considering this for along while and now that I can drive my Crossfire again I need a modern radio that is powered by Car Play, a backup camera because that back window in the ragtop is teeny-tiny and frustrating, and which doesn't require taking the dashboard apart. I'm hoping to take advantage of Best Buy's offer to install any stereo, even if you didn't buy it from them.
Yes, most people do it themselves. I have a storied history of simple home and auto repairs turning into complete disasters, so I respect my limits. I'll follow up once the dust settles.

So I just installed this radio but it doesn't fit completely in the slot. Did you get the cage to stay in and the radio to fit all the way in without trimming it? None of the cage tabs seem to hold the radio in like my last one.

mine fit fine. I did have to bend the tabs to keep it securely in but once I did I’ve had no issues

Had the Power Acoustic head unit and a backup camera installed by Best Buy. Once, after about a week, post-intallation the Bluetooth failed and it disconnected from my iPhone. Pulled over, it took four attempts to get the radio and the iPhone paired again, and it's been behaving itself ever since.
I had the USB cable run alongside the passenger side of the console. It tucks neatly into the netting, and we have devices with both USB-C and Lightning inputs, so we keep one cord of each type in the little storage bin/former cup holder.
Sounds pretty good.
