Worlds Best Driving Movie !!!
Here is a link to the most phenomenal short film I have ever seen. It has been around since the late 60's. If you are a speed junky like me, this is a MUST. It is called "Rendezvous" and will knock your socks off !!! I have it on DVD, but just found it online.

It was an Italian "ricer" sometimes referred to as a Ferrari 275 GTB. There is a lot of history behind that short film. It is rumored that LeLouche, the director was arrested at the premiere in Paris in 1976, and that the driver was one of 4 famed F1 drivers of the time including Mario Andretti and Jacky Ickx.
It's really quite a historic piece of work in the industry and was much sought after short film for years until it was resurrected a few years ago on DVD. It was one of the first times a Bolex camera was used in such a manner, which only holds 1000' of film (10 mins) and the shot is one take.
LeLouche went on the direct many notable european films and directed the chase scenes in "The French Connection".
Sorry you don't appreciate the complexity of what they pulled off in the early morning hours in Paris. I'm also sorry you didn't get the finality of the story where the driver races up to the plaza to meet his mistress risking his life to get to her as quickly as possible... It surely looks like the driver could have been Mario Andretti or Jacky Ickx in 1976.

I'll try and upload a better version to my website and then perhaps you'll appreciate it more...

If you like chase scenes (and who doesn't) I know of a rather obscure movie that was made right here in Akron Ohio over 25 years ago. It's called, "The Instructor". It "stared" some guy named Bob Cheney.
It was a Karate flick, and was so bad, it really should be considered a "cult" film. It probably would be but I've never met anybody who's actually seen it.
It has (what I believe to be) one of the longest chase scenes ever filmed. The actual chase consists of an early 70's Vette, a black Pontiac Trans Am (go figure) some honest to goodness Akron Cop cars (two of which almost have an unscripted high speed collision on film) and a pair of hi-jacked trail bikes from a Rick Case motorcycle dealership.
My best friend and his wife were both in the movie. As a matter of fact, his wife was the leading lady. He played the main characters best friend.
If you can locate it on tape (probably Beta) you might want to check it out. It does have one very good fight scene in it, (where my buddy kicks a bad guy into a lake) but the chase scene is the real star of the movie. I think there is someplace on line where you can get it.
As I said before, the acting is so bad, it really is pretty funny to watch. Even if you don't know the actors.

The best part of the whole movie is the mystery that surrounded it. Some say it was staged, some say it was more than one take and edited together. And the mystery behind "who was this alleged F1 driver" have never been answered. LeLouch, who is in his 70's now, still refuses to give details...
I thought I'd resurrect this thread for a while... Has anyone seen "Super Speedway"? It was originally done in Imax and blew me away when I first saw it. It basically covers Mario Andretti's race team for a season and has some of the most amazing driving footage I have ever seen. Picture it: You're looking over Mario & Michael Andretti's shoulders as they pilot F-1 cars around Road America and Daytona, (you see them SLOW DOWN to 170 mph to take the corners at Daytona) plus you get to see some of the high-tech gizmos they get to play with when they make the cars. There's some pretty cool vintage footage there as well. I bought it on Laserdisc a long time ago but it's available on DVD now as well. Here's the info from IMDB.com
Thanks for the info... I just ordered it from Amazon... PS: How'd you know about IMDB ? I thought only those of us in the industry knew that website... LOL I'm listed there...

Derek, I know a lot of people who use IMDB. I first heard about it on a radio morning show (DC101 for you Washington DC locals) when one of the hosts of the show was looking up information on an actress.
I'll have to look for Super Speedway on Google Video, after I watch Rendezvous again.

After discussing this for the lat day or so I had to dig out the LaserDisc and watch it again. Man, what an amazing combination: Mark Knopfler (from "Dire Straits") doing a stylized version of "Once Upon a Time in the West", a 14,000 RPM indy car, Mario Andretti, and an Imax camera... If any of you get the film on DVD, watch the center of the Driver's steering wheel during the scenes at Homestead speedway and you can see the car's speedometer registering 200+ mph. It's truly amazing.
