Biggest stereo bang for the buck mod
Posted in the wrong spot I see.
I have a 2008 Crossfire Roadster LTD which came wit Infinty Modulus Audio System, AM/FM stereo radio, CD player, 6 channel 240 watt amp and six speakers, including dual sub woofers. Hate the sound.
Is the problem my amp, or the system itself? Tried a Nissan 350Z Roadster with a Bose Sound System that was great.
Help??

A simple and cheap fix is to install the capacitors as this thread mentions. I have replaced my head unit with a Pioneer ($150) and really love it. I also ended up replacing the door speakers with Infinity Reference for ~ $50.
All of these things make a big difference. Start small. Stop when you are happy!
If you need capacitors, I will send a pair to you for $6 ready for install.
Hello Moonbeamromance,
No, not really the wrong thread. If you can, try adding the capictors to the door speakers as posted in the first thread. It can make a hugh difference in the sound, takes the heavy mirror shaking base from the door speakers and redirects it to the subs behind you. Cleans up the sound in the doors and you get a back massage with the right kind of music.
A lot cheaper than a new head unit.
Hope this helps.

I did the capacitor install - definite improvement.
I then yanked the stock HU and installed a Blaupunkt St. Louis - another definite improvement.
Dealing with a tax bill that I have to cover before dropping in the Infinity speakers in the door.
But I should also say I've never heard a Bose system I really liked, so our tastes may be quite different.

If you all had experienced the Bose System that I did, with the top down, sunshine, 2 degrees, windreflector and the sound of the engine and the music together you would never want for another sound system. The melting of the metal so to speak.
So, I got the Crossfire. Got her a week ago Wed. and have been driving with the top down in 10 to 15 degree weather. Heated seats, sunshine, then moonbeams ...... what more could a girl want?
As I said earlier, my sound system does not seem great; however the strange thing is that last night driving with the top down, moonbeams and etc ..... I put a CD in and the sound was out of this world; but the radio is not ........... So what is my problem?
Moonbeamromance - little did I know that the name I picked would reflect to me what the Crossfire is - quick silver like the moon and inspires feelings of .............. you decide for yourself

Just completed this mod on my recently purchased XF and I have to agree with most other posts on this thread. It really does make HUGE difference. I used the 330 cap from Amazon and it seems to be a good balance. Kudos to Pelked.

Enjoy that roadster...
Ah, so just the radio is lousy. Well, in my opinion most radio is crap anyway so I never listen to it. In my daily driver I've got a full on iPod integration unit and the Blaupunkt St. Louis in the Crossfire has both an iPod hookup and an SD car slot. I'm pretty sure it has a radio tuner as well but I just don't use it. Seems I have a very strong aversion to commercial interruptions these days so I avoid radio like the plague. I don't even watch broadcast television, preferring to record everything and watch it later without commercials.
And to think I used to work in direct response marketing!!!!

I think this thread should be un-stickied and a new/cleaner one should be posted and locked. It was an excellent write up and was very useful, but it shouldn't be spread and updated over more than one page.

Can anyone confirm that 330uf 100V radial polarized caps will work fine connected one in serie with the speakers when installed in any direction without issue.

Installed the caps tonight. A huge improvement. Big thank you to pelked1, Maxcichon and of course, this forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the 150 Hz caps from Crutchfield and installed yesterday. Big difference. The woofers behind the seats came alive and the doors don't vibrate anymore.
What a wonderful change to the stereo for little effort and money.
