After I did the mod my speakers bit the dust 6 months later but I do like loud music
Technically speaking there is not "extra" bass going to the subwoofer, it's always been there. What this does is keeps the bass out of the door speakers. This will appear as more to the subwoofer to the ear.

Thanks for straightening me out KW4Him on the bass thing . I guess it's just the design of the foam surrounds to eventually fall apart. I do think that everyone will have to replace the rear subs due to this issue. As for Tinnitus OneHundred80 I also have that problem from being a former musician "Kidneys" ? God knows i've run enough alcohol through them but life is good and my Crossfire makes it more enjoyable

I think its rather ironic that those who annoy everyone with the loud music ends up with a couple of hearing aids later in life. Especially when they interrupt a peaceful quiet residential area with their boom boom boom (music?) vibrating homes within a 1/2 mile radius! Yeah, ironic...

I like loud music but just for me to hear. My stock system only fills the car not the neighborhood. When you ask some of the younger people "what are you running in your car they start talking speakers, amplifiers and wattage they know very little about
engines and mechanical equipment.

BUT, by keeping the bass out of the door speakers, we tend to run the system louder - so more bass IS going out the back of the amp - just less of it gets to the door speakers - so there easily COULD be more bass to the rear speakers.

I'm with ya!i like loud music as much as the next person;just not to the point where it would be disrespctful to others.I've been competing professionally in car audio for almost 30 years;world champion in '05.while i have enough power in my Ram to run a small town(I've cracked my windshield) you have to keep the noise in the competing lanes;not the streets.

Opened the doors up and got access last night and got all my tools together.
Did the mod this mornng, Soldered the connections and heat shrink on everything.
WOW! This made a HUGE difference! I used 200 microfarad, 100 volt, non-polarized capacitors that were $4 each and free shipping on Amazon Prime.
The stereo system went from good to OUTSTANDING! I could not be more pleased!
THANKS VERY MUCH, PELKA!! This is an awesome project, and your writeup was EXCELLENT!

OK, now those of you who have the factory radio in the car and have done this - want to take it to another level?
After doing this mod, then click below and do two things:

1) Replace the head with a real four channel head (make it a marine head and it will match the interior).
2) Do the four channel mod in the link below.

NOW you have the door speakers working correctly, AND you have control over the rear speakers.

Here is the four channel mod:

I just received an Alpine CD player and Sirius XM receiver to install in my XFire, from Crutchfield, I previously used Crutchfield to replace the radio in my 1988 Chevy Corsica with a Kenwood CD player and all new speakers. The car is a heap, but with the new stereo system, I don't mind driving it. The kit they furnished dropped right into place, with a harness that connected up perfectly to the original Chevy speaker harness and all the Chevy wiring, along with a complete step-by-step Master Sheet that covered every step of the entire installation. I was VERY impressed with this and put it in in a couple of hours. I expect the Crossfire kit from Crutchfield will be just as good. There was not a SINGLE problem through the entire install. They document everything and include everything in the kit.
Will your new mod work with a different stereo than the original? I don't want to keep the original because:
A. It has developed a problem with being intermittent, where it will stop playing CD's or the radio, after 4 hours or so of continuous operation. It will come back to life after 15-20 minutes, but this is NOT OK, and I don't want to pay to have it repaired, since it lacks a lot of the features I want, anyway.
B. In the bright Arizona sun, even with the brightness **** turned up all the way, the display screen is unreadable except at night.

if so please start a brand new thread with the subject being exactly what it is. Otherwise it will be buried here for decades… 😳

Great idea! Separate Sticky or Thread for each new stereo mod. Then they are all in the same place, and easily accessible!

What capacitor did the majority who did this mod settle on?
also where did you buy it? I want to make sure I purchase the correct thing. It seems to me that the ones I saw look different than the one in the instructions.
Can someone please post a working link?

Thanks,
Nick

Thanks very much. Just ordered it.

Curious, do you still have the OEM head unit or did you replace it with something else?

Anyone else wants these, better price (with free shipping) here (
Non-Polarized Electrolytic Audio Capacitor 200MFD 200uF 19mm x40mm BP 100WV 5/pk: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific Non-Polarized Electrolytic Audio Capacitor 200MFD 200uF 19mm x40mm BP 100WV 5/pk: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
). That was a quick 2-minute search on duck-duck-go (try any preferred search engine), go past those who pay a fee for listing on search engines before other stores/websites, for the lowest prices on simple non-polarized caps. I bet you could find them less than that if you look a little more for '200uF 100V Electrolytic Non-Polarized'. Good luck!
