Where was this one purchased?
Mercedes Dealership.
When the aftermarket one was removed and held side by side with the OEM part, you could see some significant differences including what appeared to be the seals and overall casing.

This is the part# 1244630432 for the SLK. I don't know if it's the same damper that's on our cars though.

My Canadian MB dealers dont seem to have the conductivity with part #"s,in the computer system when it comes to a Crossfire part
However if I ask for a Sprinter part its no problem .
Thanks "Robby 363" I will check out this part # tomorrow and see if it matches my MB dealerships computer.

My replacement for the aftermarket part was OEM from a Mercedes dealership parts counter. It was in a Mercedes box and has the Mercedes stamp on the part.

The Chrysler Dealership in Farmington ,NM said I have a leaky steering damper. I presume that a steering damper has fluid it it. They have quoted me about $200 to replace the steering damper. Is that a reasonable price?
Thanks for any info.

Re steering damper stabilizer, I am unable to find any diagrams or info about this part in my 2004 Crossfire Service Manual. The Chrysler Dealership said the steering damper was leaking. How might I confirm this before replacing it? I am not much of a mechanic but would like to try if the cost is way below what the dealership charges.
Thanks,
Tony Palmer

Reading the thread and post by TonyGG you would see that he advised against this damper as he got one and it failed very quickly.
Maybe TLC means Total Load of Cr@p.

I bought the Joe TLC damper, just because it was fairly cheap compared to MB wanting $104. I didn't even think I needed to change it but what the heck 89000 kilometers probably needs it. It came in a box labeled Meyle products, Germany all over it, big silver Quality stamp Germany, but the end of the box stated Made in PR China, and after reading more posts on this one failing early (its on the internet so it has to be true right?) I ordered the one From Germany, made in Germany, with the silver/gold? band on the steering end. I'm about $20 over the MB one now, but I guess I have 2 Still waiting on the second one but tossed in the Joe. 10mins 2 bolts once I got the car on jack stands. And lo and behold mine had failed, oil caked and looked original. Steering has tightened up, so it does the job I guess.

I tossed in the new one I received and took out the Joe TLC. Cant find the box but it was from E-bay, Bavarian Auto i believe the merchant was. The shock brand was Stabilis?. Made in Germany. Anyway, could all be in my head but when i put on the Joe, the very slight play in the steering wheel was gone, but the cornering felt mushy. Now the car feels normal again. When i compared the 2, the resistance seemed slightly better than the Joe, the overall diameter was slightly smaller than the Joe, the rubber bushings are better quality, and you can't wiggle the housing back and forth onto the shock portion like the Joe. Soooo....there you have it, an entirely scientific extensively tested dampener theory..ish. Doh!
