That's good logic if you're buying, but in reality, someone would be willing to pay more for it with the intent NOT to do anything to it. Drive it "as is." I would be one of those who would pay the DIY price.

Now back to the topic. The main problem with the Black Max car is dealers representing it as an ultra rare special model and charging a premium for a car that will cost thousands to put back the way it was produced.
Acceleration, Handling, Braking , are all better attributes the srt has over the na. stock to stock there was a reason the price tags where 10 thousand dollars apart...

I have as much problem with the dealer listing it as an SRT-6 as I do with the Black Max claims, considering all of the missing SRT items.
I do understand why the non SRT-6 members would consider purchasing this car. I guess that at the right price, nearer $7k I would find use for it as a parts car.

$13,000 - $16,000 = Going price for used Good condition SRT-6
-$1,000 - Painted and installed rear wing
-$1,000 - Painted and installed SRT-6 front fascia
-$1,000 - Used/intalled SRT-6 seats
-$1,000 - Used/installed SRT-6 rotors, calipers and pads
-$1,000 - Used/installed SRT-6 suspension compinents
-$500 - Used SRT-6 rims
-$500 - Used/installed navigatition radio
$7,000 - $10,000 = Black Max

While the SRT6 may have better torque and 0-60 times, it's not better on what you are trying to link to safety. Either car is pretty equal on the handling front...
Not sure if this table will match up below, but it's one of the many I've found which is pretty consistent with other reviews.
NA / Limited Skid pad .91g 70 - 0 mph in 161 ft.[15]
NA / Limited 0- 60 6.4 sec (6-speed manual)[16]

2005–2008 SRT- Supercharged V6 Skid pad .90g 70 - 0 mph in 157 ft.[17]
2005-2006 SRT - 0-60 4.8
Finally, some sense comes to this thread in the form of legitimate numbers.

The weight difference between the SRT and the N/A (both with auto transmission) is very small. Yet, they produce the same numbers in the handling dept., an as you pointed out, great numbers in braking.

I enjoy the SRT's spirited rush to felonious speeds, but I smile knowing that mine reaches equally felonious speeds, just a tick slower. But not "slow" by any means. My car has regularly seen 150.

And on curvy roads? Unless you're quite adept with your SRT, get outta my way

I would be more than happy to test that theory

Hey you are one of the guys everyone at the Dragon talks about when they said n/a's can hang right with the SRT's on the mountain roads. It was nice meeting you.

As far as this Black Max Car goes... It should be listed as an SRT because it is one. What upsets me is Dealers trying to pawn off a semi-stripped SRT as some ultra rare collectable that should be selling at Barrett Jackson or Mecham. As far as how I would value the car, what I said before was for the purpose of negotiation with the crook selling it. I also would probably pay the DIY cost to restore it, but don't tell the dealer that. If I showed up to buy it, I would act like I have never seen a wrench before. If bought at the right price this could be a pretty good car as is, although personally I would do the brake upgrade and get some nicer looking wheels. This car gets so much attention, it may become a collectible on its own

It was a pleasure meeting you as well, and thanks for the kind words!

I agree that this car, while not at it's peak, is probably mechanically sound. Low-ball them and then do a nice SLK55 AMG brake upgrade. Install a Limited BCM and wing motor, and you have one helluva sleeper. Oh, and remove the graphics.

Wow, based on this thought process, the car is worth more then a SRT-6. I guess the dealer is right and $21,000 is a good price. One of you should jump on this prize.

How did you connect the dots to come up with this from JHM2K's post? I am not understanding your thought process.

It's an SRT that has been upgraded with N/A parts. Better get out of it's way on the twisties.

Oh, sarcasm... the fact is the n/a can match a SRT on a twisty mountain rooad. Anyone who was at the dragon run knows this. that Is why I said the only really significant advantage of an SRT is HP. The other advantages are really negligible. I bet if you told the n/a guys that were able to run with the SRT on those mountain roads that there cars are dangerous and the SRT's are not, they will all laguh at you. most of the SRT owner I know are geat guys but you seen to have an elitist attitude toward your car. If you want to run my n/a you better be prepared to get out of may whether it is a drag race or through the twisties.

I give you all the credit in the world for the work that you did in modifying you V8 Crossfire. However, you continue to mis-read my post. I did not state dangerous, you did and for some reason you have taken this thread personnal.

I may have. I agree with you about performance but you related that to reduced safety which is just not the case with the n/a Crossfire components. I think the Black Max Car is a great car for someone wanting the limited look with the power of an SRT. FUBU has a similar car and it is a nice car. My compliant is dealers missrepresenting what the car is and not being honest. It seems dealers keep getting fooled by this car and when they learn the truth continue to misrepresent the car as a very rare special edition. If the car ever sells and the new owner comes on here, they will be shocked to find out that it was a run of the mill SRT that was stripped of many parts prior to being repo'd. Someday the Balck Max thread will be about an owner trying to sue a used car dealer.

The Black Max car may have finally ended up with a respectable dealer! I sent an email and he just called me. He said he bought the car without knowing what it really was but has no intention of misrepresenting it to anyone. He asked questions about the what an SRT was and what was special about them. He then asked for sugestions on how to best market the car. He said he was going to change the ad to represnt it as an SRT that has been cusomized to look like the Limited and is now a great "Slleeper" car. He was very nice on the phone and believes it is a great car but wants any buyer to know what they are buying.

An honest used car dealer, you don't hear that too often. I doubt that he will recover his investment, even with the clever "sleeper" marketing. Did he say why he did not go back to the auction and challenge the seller for mis-representation?

He didn't mention challenging the seller, but nothing "clever" about marketing it as a sleeper. This term has been around forever and this car perfectly represents that term. This car could suprise a lot of cars including SRT's. There are lots people out there that no better than to challenge a Crossfire with a wing on the back. I surprise people all the time with my car, so I guess I have a sleeper too.

So if I bought the wing for sale here and put it on my N/A... Does that make it a "reverse sleeper"..

Bob, I will stick with my $5k offer on the "Black Max" but would rather refer to it as the "Hacked Max". Here is the real points of this story so no one forgets. 1. Leased car 2. repo'd leased car. 3. Butchered to look like a limited. 4. Rear wing inoperable, which renders it unsafe above 90 mph. 5. Interior butchered as well. I could go on and on, but I doubt this car even saw service from this guy. The supercharger looks to have had a rebuilt one installed, so mechanically, there is a question. This guy should take my $5k offer and cut his loses. Other than that, I think car isn't worth the excitement....it's a joke and has been the butt of jokes since it first showed it's ugly head. The fact it has moved from auction house to auction house would worry me first. It has seen more miles on the back of a car hauler than street time...so enough of the "Black, Hacked, Wacked Max... It should have a rebuild title...that is what it is worth...
