SOLD So Hard to Sell, But It's Time: 06 Base MT Coupe
****car has sold***
All,
It is painful for me to do this, but I just don't have the garage space anymore and have replaced this with another car(Elise). My wife is sick of looking at the Crossfire in the driveway and I am just not using it enough to justify keeping in addition to the rest of my cars. Hoping someone here on the forum is looking for a car like mine as I would so much rather it go to an enthusiast than some Joe Schmoe! Car is basically stock; only upgrades are xenons and an Ansa muffler, both installed not long after I got the car about 10 years ago. Car has been wildly trouble free and continues to be extremely solid: I had the headliner replaced due to sagging, bought a new batter a few years ago, replaced a front wheel bearing(passenger side IIRC), and besides that just a oil changes with 0W-40 Mobil-1 and Mann filter. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car across the country tomorrow as the ONLY thing that doesn't work is the SKREEM(sp?) module; I pulled the fuse to stop the alarm going off while I was driving some years ago and have been fine living without automatic locks since then. I have copied the CarGurus information below so folks can get link to photos, vin, etc., but I'll also check back periodically if there are any questions.
Thanks for letting me a part of this great community for the last 10 years!
Description: Really solid car owned by a true car nut looking it's next caretaker! NO ACCIDENTS, BODYWORK, ETC., EVER! Car excellent condition and unfortunately I am selling since I bought another daily driver and don't have the garage space to store it. Have owned the car for 10 years and it has been garage stored for 9 years and babied for all 10. Always used Mobil-1 0-w40 oil and German Mann filter for oil changes. Always hand washed, NEVER taken through a car wash. Always parked in the back of parking lots, never by other cars to avoid door dings. Brand new tires less than 7k miles ago. Car has a few slight scratches/chips (hopefully better than you would expect with 72k miles). Car is totally stock except for xenon headlights and a Ansa muffler(same brand as used on Ferraris!); not too loud at all, just makes it sound like it should have from the factory. Car is mechanically perfect; only thing that doesn't work in the car is the factory alarm(common issue on these and have been fine without it).

Reason: Car has sold

Curious you say the car can be driven across the country but it has a SKREEM issue? How is the car running with the dreaded SKREEM not working? IF the car is running, and you have not had the SKREEM bypassed by any one of a number of the ppl with workarounds for the SKREEM issue, then it shouldn't be a SKREEM issue. I am sure I am not the only one wondering what you mean exactly? The car is pretty nice looking, good luck with the sale!

oh wow- ok, then maybe skreem isn’t my problem. Here’s the issue in full detail: about 4 years(so ~25k mi ago), my alarm would start sounding while I was driving. The car drive just fine(engine didn’t shut off or anything else), people just thought I was an emergency car driving down the road!! I pulled over and pulled the fuse that handles the alarm, and the car has been 100% fine since then. The fuse I pulled stopped the alarm, but it also disabled the remote locks(so I have to manually lock now) and the interior dome light. Both of those would still operate if I put the fuse back in. At true time of the problem I searched on the forum and I thought the symptoms sounded like a skreem module, which if I remember was a few hundred dollars to replace, but it never bothered me that much or affected the car, so I just never bothered. But again: I have had exactly ZERO driveability(if that’s a word!) issues since then(or before to be honest!).
i thought about it after I posted: I redid the valve cover gaskets maybe 3 years ago, but the drivers side is seeping a bit again. Not any sort of dripping coming out, but the valve covers could probably be done again if the next owner wanted to(I remember there were really good instructions on the forum, hardest part of the job was ensuring I had the right bolts from the MB dealer!).
Just want to be Uber transparent with this to ensure the next caretaker is pleasantly surprised by their purchase!

With that being explained it is definitely NOT the SKREEM
Ya know ya can remove the wiper arms and the cowling and simply pull the plug from the alarm
Then you can replace fuse #9 and the rest will function again
These alarms have internal batteries that eventually go dead or leak acid which generally is the cause for the alarm sounding when it shouldn't

max
Mention that the car is sold by editing the first thread, it saves people wasting time reading all the posts and find out the car is gone in your last post. Does that make sense?
