Oil Filters and DC
Oil Filters and DC
Well, I went in and had my fan recall done this morning. Great service! In and out in 45 minutes. However, I also purchased an oil filter and here is where the fun begins. The filter is in a Mercedes Benz box, and its paper, made in Austria. It looks smaller then the current one. It also has a new part number, 5183748AA 160B, and the price is $18.50 - that's right, no fleece filters anymore and double the price for the paper one.
I double checked with the parts department and they ran the numbers through the system, a second time to insure no errors were made. The parts manager told me DC had changed the part number and issued new filters.
So, it appears we are going to be charged the same price for paper as MB is charging for the fleece filter. Next change, the MB dealer parts department will get my business.
Buyer beware...check that box before the next oil change.

O.K. not to **** anyone off here, but...
I'm beginning to think you would be happier with a FORD Taurus if you wanted an economical car with cheap parts you can pick out of the junk yard or the neighborhood Auto Zone. Or maybe a Nissan Z.
It's not cool getting ripped off, but the MB dealer gets $22.86 for this filter. The good news is you only replace it every 7,000 miles.
You have to pay to play... Or you can look on eBay (that rhymes).
Come on... Smile and be happy! ... Hang in there. You own a Crossfire.

Re: Oil Filters and DC
I will pay the $18.50 -$22.00, but at the MB dealer for the fleece filter, not paper. Cost isn't the problem...the quality of the part we are bring provided is. I am concerned we will begin experiencing problems, down the road, by using the paper filter for extended oil change intervals as dictated by the FSS. Maybe I am just being a little paranoid in my old age.
Any engineers/mechanics, please comment.

When I first got my Crossfire, I went 9,200 miles before the FSS said it was time to change the oil and that was with a paper filter installed.
Dealerships are free to set their own prices. My dealer and the two MB dealers in town all charge $18.50 for the fleece filter. Another (large volume/low prices) DC dealer is selling them for $22.50.
DC has switched to yet a third filter which comes with the cap already installed... it also is being sold for $18.50.

Re: Oil Filters and DC
I just received a new filter from Moparpart.com ($13.00) Mine was also packaged with 5 o-rings. My filter is definitely not paper, looks more like the fleece. Came in a MB box with two part #s A 000 180 31 09 on the side of box and 1 - 05183748AA on the end of box, made in Austria.

PS: this is the Chrysler part # - 05183748AA the other is the MB part #
