Lightbulb CD skips

CD skips when going over a bump. Anybody know of a service bulletin so I can go to the dealer prepared. I remember last year a few conversations on this topic.

Thanks,
Bob San Diego, Ca.

I am on my third radio.
First one the number 8 button worked half the time.
Second one froze when turned on.
Third one skips also. The first two never skipped.

I don't know the answer to this one either.

My CD will skip if I tap on top of the dash, over the top of the radio, service department acts like there is no problem, but told me they would look into getting me another radio. I plan to link up with the service dept this week and find out what is going on with that. I'll let you know what I get from them. hooah

CD's I burned are the ones that skip. Purchased CD's don't skip. Maybe its not the radio, but my burner?

Well you could check to see if it's your burner by just playing the CDs in a regular CD player you know that works. I would assume that it's the car's radio if other people are having problems though.

I have the same problem if I go over a bump too fast. It's mainly just with burned disks though.

My CD player skips even on a little bump, and mine is also worse if it is a CD I burned. My number eight button sticks too, I have to push it a couple of times hard for it to switch. I can't believe the number eight that someone else had issues and with the same number.

It depends upon the bit rate used for home burning (and the burner) vs the purchased CDs, which are typically much cleaner. Since the suspension on the Xfire is pretty stiff (especially if you have an SRT-6), home burned CDs will skip... even aftermarket CD players will do it unless you go really high end that have bigger memory buffers and gyros for stabilization. Even my '05 Subaru with an aftermarket radio skips on some of my home-burned CDs. And it has a nice soft suspension... Stock radios are known to be "less than optimal"... Perhaps burning at a higher bit rate might help it a bit.
