Occasional rough idle or engine stumble
Hi,
I have a problem with an occasional rough idle or engine stumble and I have seen posts from others that also have this problem. Sitting at a light...engine idling smooth...and then it stumbles for several seconds...then smooth again. I do not know if anyone has found a cause for this, but I am interested if you feel that you have a solution for this problem (minor problem...but would like a smooth idle all the time).
Also, I came across the below service bulletin for the Mercedes slk320...same engine as the Crossfire...Has anyone seen or heard of this before? Does anyone know of any TSB for the Crossfire that addresses this?
Andrew and STRYFOX...What's your take on this? How can we find out more about this bulletin and whether or not our Crossfires have the updated software discussed below? Comments and experiences with this problem from any crossfire owners welcome.
Thanks

Service Bulletin Info for slk320
Problem: Rough idle.
If your idle is rough in the 320 it could be the engine ECU.
It can be replaced with an updated unit.
The Service Bulletin # is 121/P-BB0765/14 ECU Update
Also may go by this number: PB07-65/14

... I thought I was the only one with this problem...I sent in my car for service and they claimed to fix it and it came back...I need to go in again...but would like this info if possible Before I go in...PLEASE HELP OUT THERE!!!
The rumble happens because the engine's RPMs are falling too low and the engine starts to stall but catches itself and goes back to normal. Watch the tach when you sit at a light next time and you'll see. Mine does it sometimes but it doesn't really bother me. I had a '94 Accord that it used to happen to so bad it would stall out on occasion. My only guess is the throttle cable is a little loose and it's not holding the cable as tight as it used to.
Mind you both are manuals so I could hold the accelerator if it got too bad to get the RPMs up.

You should check your air filters, maybe they are plugged? Also you might have air leaking past the seal on the MAF. When I took my entire intake apart I coated all the rubber seals with silicone grease. Maybe someone didn't install the air cleaner and MAF properly?
Mine has had an idle roughness so bad that the rear end shakes sideways when the car is stopped at lights. The dealers have not perceived this as a problem and have made no attempt to correct it.
I would check the EGR valve and solenoid, and the EVAP solenoid and all their associated plumbing. These two system feed exhaust gas and fuel vapour from the tank back in to the throttle body and can upset the mixture if there are leaks or they are sticking.

Fyi on this topic... I brought my 2005 Crossfire Limited for this issue and my service department told me that it was the "O" rings. I looked at the service documents and it stated that the fluctuation was due to my transmission leaking. The issue is a little better but I do feel like I am in a massaging chair sometimes at stop lights, I am taking it back tomorrow for this issue... I will let you know the out come.
By the way I am new to this forum.. I have been looking at some postings for a few months but I just registered today.

When I bought my XF in October of 2005, I had the rough idle at a traffic light happen 2 times in the first month I had it. Fortunately, it has never happened again.

im having the same issue at lights the engine will sputter and i have to give it gas or else it will cut off and it seems that when i hit a certain RPM the engine will sputter in 6th gear what the hek is going on
Had this same issue, I originally thought the injectors were to blame, so I poured a healthy amount of injector cleaner into the tank. That could be your issue, but in my case the engine cover (airbox) clips weren't securely attached to all four mounts and therefore the car was being starved for air when idling. Not to mention the hot and unfiltered air that was also likely making it's way in.
