The unthinkable has happened, my xf has been scratched!
While the garage for my new XF is being prepped, I left her outside and we had a bad nor'easter... I wasn't thinking it'd be too bad. Turns out to be an ice storm... Ice built up on the front of my XF and I was determined not to touch the ice at all in fear of scratching. I turned on the car and left it for 5 mins... unbelievable it heated the ice just enough to have the ice SLIDE OFF THE HOOD... leaving 3 scratches on the hood of my brand new XF
!!!
I've been traumatized for pretty much the whole day... I immediately took her to the body shop where I was told the whole hood would have to be repainted...
!!!
I'm going to wait till the weather gets a little better to get the work done. In the meantime I was wondering what are the effects of having the hood painted while the rest of the car isn't. Should I worry about color mismatch overtime etc, etc? I'm so pissed!!
Should I have the whole car repainted?? The scratches look pretty minor but I can fit my nail in one of them... Should I try having it buffed out? Should I have the whole car repainted?? ARGHHH!!!
Someone give me some words of consolment!!!

i would almost guarantee they will buff out or can be wet sanded to be removed... considering how they came about... don't stress... all will be fine.
if you have to go this route... just be sure to take the car to a well known specialist who works on specialty cars. it may cost you $100 at most.
~ but first try 3M imperial hand glaze yourself (non abrasive)... apply with a terry cloth round wax pad ... remove with a micro fiber towel. available at napa.

this is coming from a guy who owned a highline detailing business for over 10 years.
i wouldn't even consider repainting the hood... the factory paints durability is unmatched compared to a respray. the benefit of black paint... it is the easiest color to match.
hope this helps!

but i usually apply it by hand... removing it while still wet... doing a section at a time.

So that means you can eat at a big table with a lot of food while you use the 3M stuff? Wait a minute...never mind. It was buffer not bufferet.
