The fan won't shut off!
Hi all,
Been lurking and learning for a bit on your forum, and today picked up a new 2005 Limited coupe that's been sitting on one of my local dealer's lot.
I love the car so far, except something's wrong w/ the rad. cooling fan-it won't shut off! The engine's not too hot (needle's just below mid-way) so I'm not sure why it's even on in the first place, but the only way I can stop it is to disconnect one of the battery cables. I test drove a 2004 model w/ 40000 km earlier in the week, and never heard the fan once.
When I push the A/C button or the recirculate button, the little light doesn't come on either-any chance there's a connection?
(they said they'd had to boost it this am before I got there as it'd been sitting so long-connection?)
I know it'll get fixed under warranty, but I'd like to drive it some tomorrow and it's a bit embarrassing to have to lift the hood and remove a battery cable each time I get out!
Any ideas appreciated!

there was a recall for the fan module and fan assembly ...
either way ... what happened is if the problem affected your car it either had no fan at all (bye bye motor) or it would not shut off (lucky you) ... so feel lucky and have them do the recall procedure.
this sounds like what you may have issues with:

E19 was done Feb. 22 - the fan doesn't squeak/squeal, it sounds great! (just won't shut off).
Also, it wasn't on when I first arrived and was putting on my plate etc. it seemed to begin after the no-start/jump start.

OPERATION
The Radiator Cooling Fan is designed to keep the cooling system operating at a set temperature. The cooling fan operates when the engine coolant temperature exceeds 106 degrees Celsius or when the A/C has been requested on. The Powertrain Control Module sends an input to the Radiator Fan Control Module to activate the cooling fan. The Radiator Fan Control Module receives voltage from Fuse 2 (50 amp) in the Engine Fuse Block. The Radiator Fan Control Module is grounded through G100.
I'll have a look at fuse # 2 I guess...

Well, that fuse looks ok-I'll go to our shop in a bit and see if I can figure out how to use the DRB III. Failing that, I'll have the guys look at it tomorrow.
Will advise!
Thanks for the replies.

Well - perhaps we parts men should stay out of the shop!
I couldn't even find the comm. port for the DRB. I unplugged and re-plugged in the coolant reservoir sensor, rad. fan control module, what looks like a sensor on the front of the right cylinder head. I doubt it any of that did anything good, but when I hooked the battery back up, the fan started going (but slowly, not full bore like before) and gradually slowed to a stop over about 45-60 seconds. Now it's fine. Dunno.
I'll see if our best electrical guy can have a look at it tomorrow and check for codes or something.
The A/C and recirc. buttons are still in-operative.
I'll let ya know what we find!

The culprit seems to be the Radiator fan control module - of course most parts for the Crossfire seem to be at least a few days away, so I've robbed one off an '04 on the lot until the new one comes in.
All appears fine now!
Lovin' the Crossfire.
