Question painting the interior

due to horrible wear of the paint, i'm considering painting the panels to the left and right of the gear shift/center console. since i already have to take them off to install the storage bin, i'm going to paint them to match the darker top of the dash rather than the light gray color they are. before i do can any of you give me your ideas of how you think it would look? and how do you get the paint smell off the boards after they have been painted and had protectant placed on them?

I would just buy a dash kit, the carbon fiber ones look pretty nice.

doesn't cover the part i need. it's not the silver plastic that's needs to be replaced/repaired; it's the vertical panels to the sides of the cup holder/gear shift.

Are you talking about the sides of the center console? If so, that has a "soft touch" paint that has a vinyl feel. Not sure where to get that.

If you are talking about the "silver" surface on the console there are a number of ways to go. Flat dash kits from a number of suppliers, or the ultimate coating like I put on mine. You have got to really love your car because it isn't cheap. But it sure looks and feels good!

i was talking about the sides. yeah, it has a vinyl-like feel to it. i would almost consider covering it in black leather.

I have a 2000 Silverado, it also has peeling interior paint over the plastic dash, it feels kinda rubbery. I have my doubts about being able to buy the stuff to paint on the interior parts because I have a feeling it was done in the molds during injection, It could be a type of mold release.

I had the exact same thing happen on my '04 coupe and it was repaired under warranty. The dealer subcontracted the work out to an interior specialist who came to the dealer and did the work. I recall seeing the invoice to the dealer and I think it was about $85. The repair involved using a clay bar and repainting.

i went to the dealer about it. the paint is called morihide paint. but for the price it would cost to repaint it, i'll probably just surround it in a slate colored leather.
