Check engine light with P0410 code...Mopar Dr
Like many of you... my check engine light came on and shows a code of P0410. ( Secondary Air Injection System ). This is the third time this has happened to me...in 8K miles... and it is an intermittent problem. After the dealer checked out the system again...he feels that it is probably the air pump relay that is hanging up. He has some notes about this...but no TSB. He is trying to find out if Chrysler will replace the module under warranty...since it is an intermittent problem...code get set...and CEL in on...but problem does not show when I bring it in.
Mopar Doctor had previously posted info on this open frame relay module as a weakness in the system. The dealer can not find the part number for this relay module. Does someone have the part number for this relay module.
Also...does anyone know if the relay module has been upgraded to a better part? I have a 2005 Limited Roadster.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The air pump system only functions when starting from cold.
Some people here have had this problem occur with a leaky air pump and had it replaced under warranty. However there are a few things that can cause the 410 code, but it is usually when the air pump fails to pull enough current by either not switching on or running without load. It only actually operates for about a minute when you start the engine from cold to inject air into the exhaust manifold to heat up the cats, after that it does nothing!
The air pump relay supplies power to the pump when required so could well be the problem, It is actually inside the relay control module and not a discrete item.
The part No. I believe is: 5099 007AA, see below:

To save money Bosch has mounted a row of open-frame relays on a PCB rather than use individual relays. You can pop the module open and have a look at the relays to check that they are move freely and the contacts are good. Also check that there are no hairline cracks on where the terminals are soldered to the PCB. See below:

I was once a crossfire tech, (now i'm at a dodge only dealer and my cert has lapsed) but I only had one come in with that code. What happens is the air pump shorts out internally. I replaced the pump and never saw it again.
