Default Sidez Mod : Carbon Fiber SLK32 Engine Cover

This is a little modification that I have had done as Engine Area Aesthetic Design... for my SRT-6...

WHAT: Carbon Fiber SLK32/C32 Engine Cover, Carbon Fiber Air Intake Covers, AMG Engine Plaque.

Price: About $450

Compatibility: SRT-6, SLK32, C32

Where to purchase: Contact Forum Member SRT SIX.

WHY: I was never really fond of the disguising the AMG parts inside my car and covering them up with... SRT Covers it is as if SRT or Mopar had anything to do with the manufacturing of the parts of this car... I like to give credit where it is due and the credit for performance and functionality of this car is in my opinion not to be credited to Chrysler, Mopar, or SRT.

HOW: At first I purchased an AMG engine plaque for about $20 from SRT SIX for the engine area, which our vehicle should of came with in the beginning... but after installing the plaque it was still hard to see, because it was covered by a large Engine Cover which for some reason was made to hide that area... Then I decided to further display the roots of the vehicle I purchased an engine cover from C32/SLK32 part number 1120100567 from oempartsdirect.com... for about $71 + Shipping...

After receiving and installing the product I realized that it did not color match with the air filter covers as it was slightly darker... but I was planning on painting it black anyways, but as this moment SRT SIX once again came through and found a company that was willing to do custom carbon fiber inlays and had it done on his car in many places... after seeing some pictures I was instantly attracted to the idea of having this done to my new engine cover... So after a quick chat with SRT SIX, I sent in the engine cover and air intake covers... he sent it back in about 2 weeks... the total cost of this process came out to be about $350...

Result: I am very happy with the quality of the work and it has been a big improvement to my engine area, but I do not like that on the engine plaque it says Osnabruck, Germany when AMG is actually Affalterbach, Germany and Osnabruck has nothing to do with the engine, Also my product came with a minor scratches, these are just minor nitpickings to an overall very good result...

THE FINAL SCORE 9/10

Very pretty. Good choices. That was quite an expense for something you hardly spend any time looking at, though.

Sidez,

Your comment "...I do not like that on the engine plaque it says Osnabruck, Germany when AMG is actually Affalterbach, Germany and Osnabruck has nothing to do with the engine..." brings up a good point. My mention of Osnabruck comes after line about Karmann who does final assembly of the vehicle.

Should the Karmann reference be dropped and Affalterbach replace it? What do the forum members think, especially those who have placed an order?

If I did change the plate would any owners of the old one want a new plate?

Please let me know ASAP. I will incur a new setup charge, but want to make sure you all get what you want.

PS. The reason Karmann is on the plate, is that they seem to be the only company actually proud of this car. Daimler and AMG practically disowned it and Chrysler...well do I have to explain that?

Heh you are right about Karmann being the only company proud of their creation, but Karmann is responsible for body work so for example if their badge was to be put on the vehicle it would be put on the exterior, or interior, but not the engine area, it just doesn't happen like that.

All AMG cars have the plaque signifying where the engine is assembled, regardless of where the car is assembled... and all AMG engines are assembled... in affaltebach... even Pagani has no mention of it's prestigious corporation inside it's engine area... it says AMG all over it...

I am happy with the badge i purchased from you, but for the future I suggest editing it to be somewhat more correct, but anyways only someone as picky as me would really care or notice a difference from Affaltebach to Osnabruck or the other way around.

Looks very nice. there is a Prowler that runs around here that has the same.
Any idea how the CF holds up to engine heat? That would be my only concern but a nice mod my friend!

I really like that carbon fiber look under the hood...maybe I'll have it done to my lowly limited's cover...very attractive...and it will look nice if you take her out to shows and leave the hood up for a bit...$450 isn't too bad imo...

IMO...AMG should get credit for the engine...Karmann should get credit for the body.

Kind of like the old Chevy's and the "Body by fisher" placard in the doorjamb.

The finish I use is a high grade auto grade. I have had it on mine for appx 6 months and it still looks like new.

It has a automotive clearcoat finish on it as well. You take care of it as you would exterior body panels. I don't use paste wax but use a polish and glaze. Most of the time I just wipe it with a little spray detailer.

Very nice mod, you both get an A+ on this one. Makes me want a SRT even more.

Sidez, SRT SIX, the cover looks good but shouldn't this whole thread be in the SRT-6 forum? Just for giggles, what would a similar mod cost for an N/A Xfire (without the engine plaque, of course)? I know the N/A engines are not made in Affalterbach; but where are they made?

I just made a post at https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...5&postcount=27

There is a revised SRT6 engine plaque design. Please give your opinion.

ColoradoXfire, the NA engine does not have a place for the engine plaque. The space sits on top of the supercharger on the AMG built engines.

I offer the dash plaque (though they have been placed anywhere the owner chooses) for all other Crossfire's (including the SRT).

Looks great, I just don't se my self spending that kind of cash on something that is almost always covered up.

I realize that. I was asking if you have contemplated a similar mod to an N/A Xfire's engine cover.

Sure, we can do the NA engine cover. Measure the width and length at its widest and longest points making sure to count the edges. Figure the sq inches and multiply by .50 that will be the cost.
