Default Tranny problem - any thoughts?

When I get into my '05 limited, start up, and go for a drive, I feel that its rather hard to shift into 2nd gear. I feel the shifter actually hitting the gears or the linkage going into gear, etc. This only happens when the car is cold, undriven for awhile. After driving for awhile, it seems to go away. It kind is hesitates while going in. No grinding, and no other gear problems. This entire tranny has been the smoothest one I've ever driven. Any thoughts on this, its still under warrenty, but before that, I need some thoughts. Thanks

You just described my car exactly - since the temperature dropped in the past few weeks it's been very noticeable - sometimes it makes a pretty nasty "clunk" when it finally slips into second. Hopefully it won't be an issue in the long run. My bumper to bumper warranty expires next month but I guess I still have two years on the powertrain.

Same here, I had the dealer ship look at it twice but it was obvious they weren't interested in helping me so I gave up and just deal with it. I shift from 1-3 untill it warms up, you have to rev to 4K so it doesn't bog the motor down.

I wonder if thinner tranny fluid would work?

Synthetic (like redline) most likely would help...haven't tried it in my Crossfire yet, but in other vehicles it hasn't seemed as affected by temperature as conventional fluids.

Thanks to all. It's not a problem for me, and I dont know if it's temperature related or not, maybe. It was about 50 out today, short drive, and it did the same. In my old Porsche, I used Swepco 201 and it didn't seem to help my shifting at all. NO grinding, but the shifts into other gears seem like butter. I might just go to 3rd. Oh well, love the car anyway.

My 07 with 3000 miles does the same, I often cannot get it into 2nd so I just go to third when it is cold out. But if I start in 2nd it is a lot smoother.

There is a TSB that sounds like your problem. It's about grinding but I would think without the proper amount of lubricant it would make it hard to shift when its cold.
