I love our brakes!!
I love our brakes!!
I was almost involved in an accident and discovered exactly how amazing our brakes our! I was going 45 and some car pulled out perpendicular to me and stopped right in the middle of the street blocking both lanes in the direction I was going - I was able to come to a complete stop in less than 50 feet... amazing. Probably took off a good bit of tread off the tires, but damn this car has a lot of control!
Re: I love our brakes!!
We are lucky to own one of the quickest stopping cars on the road today. But I bet your excellent reflexes played a big part in your accident avoidence as well.
My biggest concern is what happens when I make a panic stop driving a Crossfire, and the guy behind me isn't.

The good news is that the AMX would not have a scratch on it.
Re: I love our brakes!!
Was looking for a post in the Coupe section to post this in and this title seems fitting. This morning on my way to work, just at the front of my neighborhood, I pull into the right turn area with my blinker on. As I am about to pass a Chevy HHR on my left (who is in the straight/left turn lane, with no signal on) he suddenly veers over into me almost crushing the side of my engine compartment. He had no idea what he almost did and kept driving. I slammed on the breaks, feeling the ABS kick in and bring the car to a stop, the transmission kicks off because I didn't even have enough time to shift it into neutral. I sit there stunned for a second realizing the implications of what almost happened. I am pretty furious at this point because by now this guy is a quarter mile down the road. All the cars waiting at the light saw what had happened and slowly rolled forward when there light turned green as if to let me take my right turn. I turn the engine back on and fly after this guy... ofcourse theres not much I can do. And I barely catch up to him in traffic before he turns off. I got his plate number (handicap symbol). But I probably won't do anything. Is there anywhere to send a complaint? By the time I got to work I was cooled off but man some people on the roads are just idiots. Not to mention a nice sapphire roadster passed me by caked in mud, dirty as hell. Which at first I thought would cheer me up, but when the middle aged woman flew by me without so much as a glance I was thoroughly disappointed. Some people just don't appreciate our cars.
As usual this is another vent from someone who had a near accident in their crossfire!

I spent the day with it yesterday....really put it thru it's paces..(& hit the casino)....fabulous! You know the 1st gear balkyness totally vanishes if you're driving hard & rev it > 2000-2500 to start out.
I washed it yesterday & took some photos.....went thru the upload process on this site....any idea how long before they show up in the gallery? Also, of course, it's raining today & I have to go to work this afternoon.....what should I do???? Call in sick???? I just washed it!!!!

I realize not all XFires pilots think their cars are all that and bag of chips, but most of us think they're just peachy !
Re: I love our brakes!!
they are fantastic brakes considering we can stop about 4 feet shorter than a Carrera GT2.
I recently added the ceramic pads from posi-quiet, and did 8 sets of 80-10mph stops really hard, no fade until the 8th stop, the only complaint I have is the mushy OEM brake lines. other than that this car can save your life if you need it to.

Mushy OEM Brake lines... You're kidding right? I have exprienced 'mushy' OEM brake lines before and I'll tell you now that these are just as stiff as a Corvette's lines. The biggest 'fade' is going to be your pads. Get something with more friction (street/racing pad) and fluid that won't boil (Motul 600 in mine)
I may go to the braided lines next year... Not sure yet...

Re: I love our brakes!!
Several weeks ago I was in the right lane of a three lane road and began moving over to the middle lane. Another car also began moving into the center lane from the left lane. While doing so the other car pulled ahead of me while continuing to move into the center lane. I slammed on the brakes and the Crossfire stopped like it was dropped into cement. Funny thing though was that a second later the other car was clear of me so I stepped on the gas but nothing happened for a half second or so, then my car began moving. It was like all of the braking aids were still engaged.
