Two tone paint job...
OK heres a new one, How do we feel about a two tone paint job on the body? I think I'm going to paint a 18th scale model with black sides and keep the hood, roof and trunk lid brite silver,The black sides would really pop the Chrome wheels and any other chrome trim, I don't believe a paint job would take away from the lines and would make it very interesting, I think...?
I think painting a toy model is the way to start. My concern is weather a Crossfire coupe is to small a car to support two colors.
I have seen this combo on trucks and larger cars and it looks great.
very custom, especially Silver and Black.
I know i can count on you guys for some interesting opinions.
By the way, isn't this forum out of sight!

I have a friend who has a silver AMX painted that way and it looks fantastic.
I would take the blue to the very edge of the fender, run it down under the grill to the "cut line" on the bumper, and under the side windows to the very end of the rear 1/4 window. Then as a finishing touch, separate the blue from the silver using a 1/8 inch red pinstripe.
If that's to wild for ya, then a 1/8 inch black pin stripe would tone it down.

It would also look good if you did it in dark gray with a red pinstripe.

AtomHeart, excellent photoshop work. I wish I could have done that. Thanks!
Woodlands1. That orange AMX was on EBAY a while back, and it was a beautiful car. I think it sold for more than $30k. I wish mine looked that good.
I just posted it to show what a "Shadow Mask" paint treatment looked like.
I'm always pointing out the similarities between the AMX and the Crossfire, and I think that paint scheme worked well on the AMX, and I think it might look pretty good on the Crossfire too.
I liked it on the 1979 and later 280ZX's also.
Just another way to personalize your car.

I've thought about doing this as well, but the car is too rare. I think it would look good if done tastefully alla Chip Foose. Look at some of his AMBR cars, he's done quite a few in two tone.

I did this one a while back. I didn't go all the way down the front and left some color on the hood. Also, the side sections of the roof would not be painted but the roof part will. I didn't around to how the back would look since I didn't have a good picture at the time.
(disregard the wheels, when "lowering" the car in the picture the back black mask got messed up).

I did find this rendition which is more in line with what he was suggesting.

Has anybody two-toned their car other than "Stryfox" who painted just his roof?
A dealer near my house did one with what sort of looked like a "Bill Board" paint job similar to what the '71 Cuda's offered. Needless to say, it didn't sell very quickly.

No, I'm still very interested, I just want to do some designs first. One idea will have the sides black including the bumpers and a checkered flag blend going from the the rear quarter panel up the sides of the roof and only the sides and ending into the existing silver roof. The hood and rear deck lid will also remain silver. Eric has offered to do a rending in photoshop. I've been painting a model to see the results and have changed it 3 times. But will get there. If it looks good on paper, that's when it will be right. Oh I'm going to wait a bit as this is a big step. Being in the sign business, I might do a vinyl wrap first. The expensive vinyl lays down very well and best of all can be removed if I decide "What in the Hell did i do?" If on the other hand it looks really good I can then go to paint. My problem is I can't leave anything alone.

Eric's photoshop ability is a terrific way to see it also. You're absolutely right about this forum, you couldn't ask for a more helpful group.
Lookin forward to seeing what ya come up with.
As you can see by the photo of my car, I can't leave well enough alone either.

I'd have to disagree with the checkered flag motif. I think it should remain classy and uncluttered. The car already has a LOT going on with the design, checkers would just add clutter. Just my $.02
Also, I like GatorLca's rendition with the exception of the stripes on the fender and of course the yellow wheels. I was thinking the exact same thing. All silver with black down the middle. That would look very nice!
