Default Oil Change

My husband took my car to get the oil changed, and they told him it required a certain oil, Mobil 1, and that Chrysler would provide it at no charge because the law requires them to do so, since the engine requires it. Does anyone know about this?

First part makes sense about the car requiring a specific mobil1 oil, but the dealer ship providing it at no charge? I don't know about that.. as it is a very expensvie oil change.. a quart of the mobil1 our cars use costs anywhere from $5-9 and our cars require 8.5 quarts...

I think by law dealership is required to put the correct oil into the engine, but not free of charge...

They recommend sae 0W-40 synthetic, but I don't think Chrysler is going to do it for free someone's talking out their *** .

Hey, if Chrysler will pay for it, why not. Hard to beat that deal, unless they charge you 100.00 for the filter.I've never heard anything like this before.

Cool Re: Oil Change

Maybe a condition of the sale of your vehicle was "free oil changes", keep us posted.

Because of 0 being the lightest oil I know of, why would you want to run a heavier oil in your car, espicially in cold temperatures? I've heard of people running heavier oil in air cooled low tech engines in the HOT summer months, ( ATV's, 4-stroke trail bikes, Harley's ) but never in the cold. I would always stay with 0w Mobil 1 Synthetic.

I would stick with the 0w-40 weight also. My last oil change it took 8 quarts at around $6 a quart. Filter $10, time about a half an hour, piece of mind that it's done right........Priceless!

I'm running 5-30W mobil1 only because it was on sale cheap, $15 for a big gallon jug at wallyworld. just use what the manual recommends for your climate, 0-40W is not set in stone.
