Default 0-40 Mobil 1

My local(sw ohio) Wal-Mart finally stocked Mobil 1 0-40. $5.97 qt. Same price as other grades. No large bottles. Takes my oil change cost to $65.

what was it before? because that seams like a fair price... the cheapest I have ever seen 0w40 is $5, but that was only within a small time frame..

Everywhere I can find it is 6.49 which means it's cheaper when you add the filter in to have the dealer change the oil/filter.

If I can buy for around 5 bucks a qt. I'd prolly go back to changing my own oil again.

How much is the filter you buy ? at 5.97 a qt. that's about 60 bucks not including tax just for oil, then you have to add the filter + more tax to it!

As a side note, what is the best oil filter you guys would recommend for the crossfire ?

Just got through my first oil change using AMSOIL 5w-40. It meets all the MB standards and if you order online and sign up for the preferred customer discount you can get a case of 12 for $68.40 and a WIX filter (same brand that NASCAR uses) fo $10.35. With shipping it cost me $99.98. Add tax for California. And AMSOIL DOES outperform Mobil-1 in all independent tests.

I was curious and checked into the independant testing. All I found was dealers pushing Amsoil and claimed results. I could not find an independant lab testing without allegiance. The testing results displayed did not use 0-40 Mobil. Amsoil does not make a European car oil in 0-40...apples and oranges. Plus the $2.25 premium in cost. I'll use Mobil 1 as does Mercedes Benz on original fill. A Wix nascar filter does not match to Mann/Hengst/Mahl fleece standards. However after all this I believe that either oil will insure a long engine life when properly done..

I just bought some at Blains Farm and Fleet. It was on sale for $4.99 a quart. Just ask and they will tell you when the next sale is. I had to wait two weeks, just have to plan ahead a little.

That depends on the dealer. My dealer wants $150.00 for an oil change on the Crossfire. I can do it myself for half that amount.

K&N filters and Mobil 1 in all my cars.
Never used a oil change company or the dealer.
Do it yourself and know it is done right.
Never a problem.

I just did the xfr today.. even thought the counter says 4500 till due. Since it is new to me I like a known reference point.
SRT8 every 3-4000 miles
RAM average 5000
Jeep average 5000
I try to use the Mobil 1 extended in everything.

I notice it reccommendes 0w-40 for weather up to 100 degrees. Here in Dallas it goes over 100 degrees all the time. What weight oil should I use for 100+ degree weather?

Owners manual only recommends 0W-40, a few degrees likely will make little difference.

Owners Manual: For best performance and maximum protection under all
types of operating conditions, only use synthetic engine
oils, approved to MB 229.3 or MB 229.5, such as Mobil 1

SAE 0W-40.

I also checked the manual for my SRT8 and it also recommends 0W-40, except the chart has arrows in both directions, above 100 and below -20.

Forget those Snake Oil pushers. For many of them Snake Oil is a religion. They bow to their god and want to help everybody else to see true god. Sounds eerily familiar?

In another forum I belong they actually started banning Snake Oil pushers. Which in *MY* book is a good thing. Good riddance.

Yea, I have never used a company to do mine but when I was pricing oil/filter, it is cheaper for my dealership to do it ($95). If I can get the oil for cheap, I will most definitely do it myself

I honestly don't trust anyone doing stuff on my car, but recently I don't have as much time as before, so some things I have to pass onto the shop.

I've always used Mann filters but mainly because i've only ever owned BMW in the past and Bavarian Autosport got great deals on them and were highly recommended, so that's what I used.

I'm in the middle of checking up on Hengst as arado suggested but haven't made any decisions yet. Price and quality obviously are the most important heh

I wouldn't call AMSOIL a "snake oil". If you hang around the racetrack long enough, you'll see more people filling their crankcase with that then anything else. I'm not saying Mobil-1 isn't a great oil. I know it's the OEM oil for Porsche, MB, VW, BMW and many other car makers. But just like a cars stereo can be improved, so can it's oil.

When it's all said and done, the difference you or I could notice probobly wouldn't even be measureable. I was merely offering an alternative such as Bilstien to Koni.

The thing that concerns me the most is the advertising and claims of Amsoil. I do not see a heads up comparison of Mobil 1 equivalent products. After spending a lot of years around race tracks, mostly motorcycle, I use and see a lot of Mobil 1 20/50 or "T" types. True high performance oils. They don't talk about these..no 4 ball test .......

Let me rephrase that: SNAKEOIL is not necessarily Snake Oil. But what puts it into that category is the constant almost religious banter of its apostles XXX is better, XXX is being used more than anything else XXX is tested better, XXX is that and XXXX is this.

This paired with thefact that I have not seen a major chain picking up the distrivution put SNAKEOIL into the Snake Oil territory.
