Karmann Decal Install
I have a bit of a phobia about decal installation. Does anyone have a fullproof method of getting them on straight and centered? I am going to install the Karmann under my wing. Is it possible to use a similar method as Andrew recommends for his decals?
Soak both the surface of the car AND the peeled decal with soapy water. Place the peeled decal on the car, slide it where you want it, eyeball it ten or fifteen times to be sure it's where you want it, then squeegie it out real nice. Make sure it's good and dry, remove the backing, and you are golden.
(Make sure it's really really dry)

The decal is 3 parts.
1.) The decal (individual vinyl letters)
2.) The wax paper the "decal" is stuck to.
3.) The masking tape.
When you get the decal, the actual vinyl letters are sandwiched between the masking tape and the wax paper.
You will want to get the car all soapy and wet. Then peel the wax paper backing from the decal. You will now be holding the decal letters stuck to a piece of masking tape. Gunk this all down with soapy water, too. Slap the wet masking tape/decal in the general area you want it on the car. Line it up real nice. Make sure it's where you want it. Then take a squeegie and get the water out from under the masking tape. Once it is good and dry, remove the masking tape from the car. All that is now stuck to your car is the decal.

Interesting-the Karrmann decal I got was self-adhesive. I cleaned the surface of the car (under the wing) with alcohol and stuck the thing in place.
I'd be careful to see if it's a "slide-off" or self adhesive BEFORE I dunked it in soapy water.
Anyone else?

You can get any of them wet. You don't have to get them wet, but if you try to put it on dry, once it touches the car, it's stuck. You can't re-position it. It's much better to do them wet, so you can position it and make sure it's where it needs to be.
I just took some measurements of both the actual decal (not the surrounding carrier material) and the area where I intended to apply it - subtract the size of the decal from that of the location and divide by 2, this is how far from the edge you need to place the decal. Do this for both vertical and horizontal positioning. Once the edge position is found I just laid some blue painters tape at that point, peeled the facing off the decal and set it against the tape guides, did the squegee thing, peeled the backer off, then removed the tape.
Measure twice, stick one.
