Default HID question (couldnt find answer)

For all who have installed HID's I have a couple questions

Did you install them on your Low Beam?
Did you have to use any resisters?
Did you have to use any capaciters (change of votage or wattage)?

Was is just plug and play?

I'm new here, and I hope this will become my new home

HID's do not require any resistors or capacitors, BUTT HID's *DO* require an extra box of electronics. The technology is VERY different to incandecant lightbulbs. basically what it bois down to is that you plug the electronics into where your light bulb used to be plugged in to, and then the new HID light bulb is connected to another set of wires coming from this electronic box ( often called 'ballast', even though that is wrong in terms of technology)

But basically it is plug and play.

Thank you for your reply; I do fully understand HID's but what I wanted to know is if there is any extra modifications needed due to the "light out" warning light on our cluster or if the day time running lights give out less current then the low beams at night time. If they're just plug and play and no one has had any issues; thats all I was looking for answers on.

thanks

The only extra modification I had to do is the way the wires are fed back underneath the rubber cap. In terms of the lights out: Since I replaced all my lights with LED's I have that lights out anyway, and therefore I used a small piece of black electric tape (I can't even see that there is a tape there)

I installed HID's in my car a couple months ago and I don't get a light out indicator. It's plug and play. The hardest part for me was on the stock bulbs you can unplug the wire from the back of the bulb and swing the retainer clip up to release the bulb, but with the HID's the wire goes directly into the back of the bulb itself so you can't put the bulb in and just swing the clip back down because the wire is in the way. Instead, you have to remove the retaining clip completely and fish it around the wire in the back of the bulb and back into its little loops in the headlight which I did without removing the headlights but it was a total bear. Don't try that unless you have small hands and a whole lot of patience.

Does anyone know which part of the original headlight wiring harness is negative and which one is positive. One has 2 wires going into it. The other only 1.

Thanks.

2 wires on the negative side. On the McCulloch H7 kit I installed last week, the wires do go directly into the back of the bulbs, but have weatherized connectors that plug into the ballasts. So, you can fish the individual wires through the clip prior to plugging them into the ballast. I didn't have to take the clips off, but it is a snug fit around the body of the bulb, however.

Also, don't forget to cut a little slit and run the wires through the rubber weather cover before you have everything connected... learned that one the hard way.
