Headlights Help!!! Please!!!
Guys I need some help!
I purchased my 2005 Crossfire with 15,000 miles about 2 months ago.
I bought it with the headlights having fog on them. I printed out the "recall" on this page, which is the "kit" that Chrysler sends out for the mechanics to clean up the headlights...well, that didn't do a damn thing to help.
The dealership is being total ******** to me and just telling me the whole "its not covered under warranty." Im like....but its manufacturer warranty bumper to bumper, everything, its basically a brand new car with 15000 miles. He started giving me this sotry about his crappy jeep and how the "elements' can affect the headlights. He also said, "i didn't find any moisture inside" While explaining to me the financial hardship on the dealership and all that bullshit that i don't care.
Now, I've read on here how some of you guys were able to get your headlights replaced. Mine are in horrible condition, especially at night with the headlights on. i live in BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY. If any one of you know any dealerships or can share with me anything that could be helpful to help me resolved this i would greatly appreciate it.
I feel like i deserve better headlights and this car is not that old or was not driven that much to have headlights in such a terrible condition.
I would love to hear your guys' opinions and any advice on how what i shoudl say to the chrysler dealership or headquarters.
I LIVE IN: BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY
DEALERSHIP: MARTIN DODGE CHRSYLER JEEP
HELP A.S.A.P. PLEASE!!
(also, may i add that its still under the dealership warranty. It expires on january 21st, 2009. Meaning i am still under 2 warrantys...but apparantly they cover everything BUT headlights...WTF?)

Sounds like a crappy dealer.
I had the same issue, and when the kit didn't work they replaced the headlights.
As far as I know this is covered under the 3/36 warranty, but not by the MaxCare extended warranty.
The fogging is probably caused by UV.

There are 2 issues with the head lamps....the TSB only covers condensation within the head lamps due to poor venting and design. If you have hazing on the outside due to the elements, hard water...etc, this can be construed as a different issue. Either way the dealer should replace your headlamps, but this is at the descretion of the dealer. I would look for another dealer or do a search here on the forum there is a few threads on how to fix the exterior hazing, but will require a bit of time and elbow grease.
they performed that kit and they didn't want to replace the headlights.
Are you anywhere near my location?
I am really trying to get this resolved...
I have the FULL 3/36 coverage as well....so it should be covered.

so basically everyone agrees with me that the dealer is basically shoving one up my ***? lol
i don't mind the elbow greese or working on it...but the fact is....if i am deserving under my warranty to receive a new or remanufactured part...then why should I not receive that luxury?
I am hoping someone can give me a dealership near BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY.

I just got off the phone w/ my Service Manager at our Chrysler Store..... You're toast. He told me that while we did replace several pairs under warranty, we probably shouldn't have. The major reason that these have had issues were because of sitting in holding yards for 2 years for cars that wern't sold. Then Chrysler released a few thousand of these in spring 2007. There weren't that many reports of this issue at the time, and when we were getting in cars w/ under 20 miles we were lucky to have these replaced. Now more and more claims have been filed and they aren't replacing the lights.
Your dealer might be doing all he can. I know you don't want to hear that, but if his hands are tied from Chrysler.... There's not much he can do. I would bite the bullit and ask him what kind of a break he can make you on new lights, or ask if Chrysler is willing to split the cost w/ you. Any help is better than none. Just my 2 cents

you can purchase a headlight restore kit at walmart for $7 or you can buy some 2000 grit sandpaper and some cheap scratch-x, plastex or kit brand scratch remover and fix it in about 10 minutes if your dealership still refuses to fix it.
RH - some Meguiars PlastX and some elbow grease and you will be good as new. It gets out the haze and etching. Will not remove deep pits or the condensation issue. I use the PlastX with my Porter Cable buffer and an orange cutting pad and it makes it good as new in about 5 minutes time. I think Meguiars has akit with everything you would need.
PM me if you have any questions.

thank you all for your input....but now i am confused.
some are saying that i should just forget it and fix it myself...and others have claims of theirs getting replaced under warranty.
do i have any ground to stand on if i want to pursue the replacement under warranty?
I checked the "manual for the Chrysler warranty" and under section 2. it talkes about "What's covered under DaimlerChrysler's Warranties"
-under section B. Whats Covered it says, "There is no list of covered parts since the only exception is tires."
(The above is for the Basic Limited Warranty 3/36)
the dealer told me that my headlight issue is not a defect....well if its not a defect then why am i having this issue? I understand because of the elements....but i know cars that are way older than mine or the same year and dont' have this problem at all. A friend of mine in my town has an 05 Crossfire, with more mileage, and his look brand new....
Any more ideas?

If the problem is condensation INSIDE the housing, it should be covered because it isn't from the elements. It's a design issue and DC recognized it as such.
If it's on the OUTSIDE thier argument might stand. Although, if it was held by Chrysler for 18 months with no protection (neglect) they should make good on the 3/36, $500 a pop or not. If it's not excluded, what is the issue?
JMHO
If it's the outside of the lens that's fogged up, is twenty bucks a lil more tolerable than hassling with the dealership ?
If so, pick up a product called Crystal View, 20 Georges at Wally World and follow the instructions. See my gallery for the before and after.

I’ve had two pairs replaced under warranty, Limited and SRT6. Dealer discretion seems to be the approach with this situation. Had they not replaced mine, I would have restored them too like new on my own or tried another dealer. As mrphotoman stated, try fixing it yourself and take future business elsewhere

i had some hazing on the outside. went to wally-world and bought some Meguiars plastic cleaner. it was like $5 and i probably used about $.05 worth and about 5 min each to clean them up. Looks new. it just isn't worth my time to drive to the dealer for that. now if it was something on the inside, i'll be there demanding action. these cars cost $45K new and we deserve some respect even if they are mfg. disco'ed.
The mechanic said that he doesnt' see the "condensation" to be in the inside...because he did not find water inside the headlights. Thats while he was performing the condensation recall kit.
He says its on the Outside of the headlights.
I don't know how long it stood on their dealership....or what, but I would have no problem trying another dealership to see what they say. But the thing is, my gut feeling would probably be them telling me to go to the dealership i bought it from?
If anyone has any knowledge of a dealership around Bowling Green, KY which would replace my headlights under warranty please let me know.
Thanks.
