Default Many thanks from a newbie

Guys I have to thank you and this forum for getting me under the hood and looking into this fine vehicle. I've been lurking on these forums and posted a couple times. But recently I have been reading these threads non-stop. I finally (after a $120 oil change) opened up the hood and took a look at what was in there. Really what's in there was and for the most part still is a mystical land of the unknown. I come from the land of Jiffy Lube and dealerships (daddy never taught me how to do these things) where you sit for several hours and get a bill that is totally not what you expect due to "oh this and that needed to be fixed". But I'm getting more and more familiar every day with what is in there.

I know I'm going to sound like a total novice (and I am) when I say this, but here goes.... I just got done with replacing those air filters under the engine cover and really i was amazed to see that a miniature forest was growing in there. I even braved the cabin air filter and chewed some grit as I pulled that thing out. Gosh I thought I was going to be breaking something down there. All that and more was due in part to this forum. Everything is back together and I can't wait for the next oil change to do that instead of taking it for another ungodly bill.

I'm not sure if this is the right section for a big thank you, but really... THANKS! I'll be seeing some of you guys at Texas Motor Speedway later this month. Until then, take care!

Good for you for taking on the jobs yourself!! Most of the little things can be done quite easily with a little knowledge. Have fun with your first oil change. You will be surprised how easy it really is once you have done it.

"oil change. You will be surprised how easy it really is"

My only problem was that the filter cap/assembly was very, very tight -- none of my dedicated wrenches could get it. Ultimately had to use a pipe wrench.

Oh -- and having to use two oil catch pans (8.5 quarts!) made it a little messy.

This is an amazing group, with a lot of hands on knowledge. Newby here also, and I've learned a lot about these cars here. Welcome and what flavor did you get?
