Default Common Problem

Newbie from Little Rock AR. We traded in my wifes Altima for an Srt6 a few months ago. I was really disappointed that the supercharger turns off, and comes on, turns off, comes on... We thought this might be normal until I did some research on this site. We have already put the car up for sale locally because it is a real nuissance losing power in the middle of a race, then getting the thumbs up from the other driver when he flies past you cause you are topped out at 115mph. Does this sound like the typical IC pump? If so, where is a good "how to" write up on changing this out? I searched with no luck. Ive also tried looking for this pump on the car and didn't know where to start.

I have a Kennebell blown SS Silverado, but no intercooler. So this is a new one for me. Thanks, sorry for the long post.

this is an easy install....and I wouldn't sell it until you feel the real power which you haven't done so far....probably why the other person sold it...lol
anyway, all those who flew by thinking they had a "kill" will look in amazement when you dust them off the road...and think....he was just letting me win....

Yes don't sell it, unless your Silverado is in the 11's, you'll want to keep it. These cars are pretty easy to work on, I've done all my mods myself and don't even own a code reader. If you use the right parts and companies you'll never throw a code with mods. Familiarize yourself with the plumbing and it will all come together. PM me if you need more help. The link above is right on the money.

I just ordered the Johnson IC pump.I have had random power loss especially on hot days. For the price why not go ahead and change it out. The day I test drove the car it was cold almost spitting snow. The car was a rocket. It never ran that good again.

I will definately get the Johnson. I was reading some others going out after10000 miles with the ford pump. What are the symptoms of an IAT sensor going out? Thanks for the Pics! I cant ever get this kind of help on my forum!

My car had the same problem with the supercharger switching on and off. The IC pump was NOT replaced. My car turned out to have a faulty sensor and has not had a problem since. I'll dig out the paperwork and find the part number of the sensor and post tomorrow, just in case it's not your pump.

You never know. I've got 72K on the original pump and it works fine. First see if your heat exchanger is plugged full of sand and junk and not cooling. You can remove the two plastic lower grills by using a screwdriver and releasing the plastic clips on each end. I used compressed air but a power wash would work also.

I have had similar problems with my SRT. The power loss was unpredictable, and when it went out I felt like I was on a bicycle...no power at all. Living here in Phoenix, the heat is certainly an aggravating factor. I just replaced my IC pump with a stock replacement....bought from Rob at Needswings. My car just turned 18K on the odometer, but sure enough it was the pump. Since I was doing this I took the opportunity to flush the entire cooling system and replacing the factory coolant with Zerex G05. I also added one bottle (a pint I believe) of Water Wetter, obtained from the local Checker Auto for about $8.00. I also installed one of Needswings isolation kits, which is a 10 minute modification. Its been 3 weeks now, with daytime high temps way above 100 degrees. No power losses at all, and the car is running great!!

For the record I too was concerned that it was a bad IAT sensor, but it appears I was wrong. It is amazing what just a new pump will do to fix
the problems. I didn't pick the Johnson pump since I was worried that it's higher flow rate might increase internal pressure and cause the actual intercooler under teh SC to spring a leak...probably too cautious on my part.

Good luck. I would suggest you try these mods first (total cost was under $225 including new coolant and Water Wetter) before selling a GREAT car.
It goes like stink, and is a blast to drive.

John

We have about 50,xxx miles on the car and I'm sure its never been changed out. I will try the pump first. I found the little door and the pump. Hopefully that will do it.

Is it possible that the gas mileage would drop when the SC is not working?
