Replacing front brakes only
The brakes on both my roadster and 2007 still have plenty of life and I want to avoid unnecessary costs if I can. The fronts cause the traditional DUST problem; the rears are not bad. Has anyone replaced just the front brakes with Rotex or equivalent and has it caused any problems? Front brakes wear faster than rears anyway. But what about mixing brake pad types on a car (i.e., keeping the oem on the rear)? Thought it worthwhile to leverage the forum's collective experience.
Replacing front brakes only should have no ill effects on the car. I have done it many times on my cars. In fact I am getting ready to replace only the front rotors, calipers and pads on the Aero with C32 parts and DiskItalia titanium kevlar pads. I am using this same make of pads on the car now.
I'm with you!
Sooooo tired of cleaning the dust. Just don't think about it till its time to clean the dust AGAIN! If I had the Rotex pads I'd install them in a second!

Goldwing - I've just replaced my front stock pads on the SRT last week. I've had the Rotex Golds on the '04 for a couple of years now.
The '04 wheels are usually clean as a whistle compared to the SRT's fronts & frankly, I just got sick of the constant dust issues. I couldn't go a day without the infamous black haze appearing. The rear pads on the SRT have been Rotex after replacing them a year ago when I started getting a lot of racket from the rear brakes. Discovered that the rear rotors were shot so I replaced the whole shebang all at once. No problems at all with "mixing" the pads, the rear wheels were just always cleaner
.
The only issue I have now on the SRT is an occasional squeak coming from the fronts when braking; a small trade-off for no more dust, IMO!!

I needed an inexpensive set of pads for my W202. The front rotors needed replacement, and I did not want to waste the cash on a "good" set of pads I was just going to throw away in the near future. I had just spent several hundred on the rear brakes as the calipers had failed. I went to Autozone (yep!) and bought the Duralast C-Max ceramic pads. I was skeptical for sure, but they are pretty good pads. Very little dust, and they bite really well cold, and maybe a little better than average when hot. I think they were about $50-60.
I was pleasantly surprised.
As a side note, if you have the single pin rear calipers, do not let the pads get too much below 25%. The design of the caliper is such that each pad is supported by a small rail on the top and bottom. When the pad wears too much, the leverage breaks the ends of the pad support rails off. Expensive to fix.
