Cup holder issue...PLEASE HELP!!!
My cupholder won't stay down. Does anyone know what the problem is and where I can it repaired and what it might cost? Or, is this something that I can easily fix myself?
mine did the same damm thing! its not a cheap fix at all,but what you can do is replace it with the storage bin thru mopar parts. It's about 48 bones and if your like me my elbow allways knocks the drink right out of the damm thing anyway!
Same thing happened to me as in the OP.
I put the STorage Bin in (that was offered in the base model). I use it to keep my wallet in so I don't give myself a hernia trying to get my wallet outta my pocket while sitting in my air-conditioned, smaller than a go-kart, Crossfire Roadster.
If ya know what you are doing, you can replace the cupholder with the bin yourself in 20 minutes. (Of course, it took me 50 minutes - but if I have to do it again - it'll be a breeze the next time).
The bin was $68 at my dealer, they discounted it to $52 with tax. You can order them online for $28.

I installed the $34.00 extra cupholder suggested by taurusjds:
My OEM cup holder works fine, but I too was tired of knocking a Big Gulp onto my passengers with my elbow or a .93g turn!
This extra cup holder also works for your passenger. It fits our interior really well and took like two seconds to install (or remove).
It does not interfere with leg room, just make sure to remove it before pushing the passenger seat up.

The part number for the center console bin is: 1BQ12XDVAA
of course your cupholder can be fixed. just take it to the dealer...it's a warranteed item (tsb). i'm just one of the minority crossfire owners who likes the thing. it mostly holds my blackberry, though it does see various small liquids from time-to-time. while your're at it, check your driver's side slide out bin (they used to be called ashtrays during politically incorrect times). that used to hold my lg vx11000 just great. just pull the front of the bin down for a change repository. i like it...it's funky/has character.
They have a new cupholder for the Crossfire, it is stronger, they say, and will not pop up when your elbow hits it. Still costs over $100.00, but if you have a dealer license it will cost $85.00. I just order one today.
If you dont want to replace it with a storage bin or a new cupholder, you could take the cup holder apart and take out the spring thing and it won't pop up anymore. It will just stay down and you can still manually pop it up if you need to work out your elbow.
I just modified my cupholder into a storage bin. The cup holder has three main parts. Using one of the parts and a couple of spare plastic dvd cases and some glue, I turned it into a storage bin. I'll take pictures later after work. It's not bad compared to a new pricey storage bin.
Actually, I seem to have the opposite problem. My cup holder stays down, but unless it's feeling particularly friendly, it won't stay up when I try to put something into it. Otherwise, I really don't mind it too much.
